Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not quite sure which thread this belongs but it affects USA businesses too
Assange claims "supporters" behind the massive DDOS attack
that's affected many major sites over the last day or two; retaliation for Ecuador sending him to his room and taking away his internet privileges.
So Wikileaks is blaming the U.S. gov't and Ecuador for provoking this attack without any actual proof the U.S. pressured Ecuador instead of say, repudiating this attack and saying it betrays everything they stand for?
And that's assuming this really was done by Wikileak's supporters. It wouldn't surprise me if Assange is just taking credit for this to feel important.
Never mind that said releases so far haven't really shown anything that damning.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhile (trying to) playing hatchetman for the Trump campaign.
CNN did an interesting piece on Trump's faith. To the surprise of no one, its almost entirely based in "positive thinking" (ie: nothing is my fault, never apologize, even to God) and prosperity gospel (possibly the least Christian thing possible).

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
Compare that to HRC's Methodist faith.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methodism
Explains a lot about HRC, really.
Disgusted, but not surprised@Assange and the DDOS attacks, he's not "admitting" it per se, but sort of doing the same dance that Trump does with the KKK where he's giving then an atta'boy for their support without ever openly saying that they'r directly linked to him.
Also possible that it's not related to him and he's just milking it.
More Jill Stein fun: Apparently, she was insulted by John Oliver's recent piece on third parties and actually responded. Geez does she have a thin skin. Even Donald Trump merely responded with "Very Boring" after all of the various insults John has thrown at him. John didn't even go into the really crazy parts of the Green Party's platform.
Crap,

Disgusted, but not surprisedOkay the part that stood out to me is when asked about John Oliver's criticism of her student loan forgiveness program, she basically repeated her answer and didn't answer to the critique that using Quantitative Easing to cancel Student Debt is a terrible idea. What's her solution? You know the plan by the Obama (and semi-supported by HRC) to update our nuclear infrastructure so it doesn't fall apart? She wants to literally "cancel those nuclear weapons" and "Pay for a generation of young people with these changes of endless debt" and asks if John Oliver is part of the "Hillary Clinton Protection Network." In other words, the $1 trillion used to maintain our nuclear arsenal she wants to use ALL of it to cancel student loans AND pay for college tuition.
I'll add more once I transcribe the loonier parts
New Survey coming this weekend!

the libertarians might pivot to be more trumpish and grab more of the vote if the GOP gets a centrist come 2020 and that might be enough of a spoiler to keep either party from getting the 270 required.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?
