Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'll assume you mean other than killing Osama, crippling Al-Queda and turning it into a non-factor, getting agreements for the biggest efforts to date to deal with climate change, pushing for a rise in American wages for the first time in 30 years, getting a universal healthcare coverage system passed and put into place, (and while I personally think it's at best only a first step to the the system we should have, and a first step that is desperately in need of a public option rather than relying on private companies, it was something that had eluded politicians from both the left and the right for 100 years) ending the pointless 50+ year standoff with Cuba, crafting a successful peace deal with Iran, (instead of launching into another Middle East war, and confirming in the process of making the deal that Iran really had ended its nuclear weapon program a decade earlier, which should preempt any bullshit attempt to start a war there in the future) saving and turning around the American auto industry after decades of mismanagement, policies in favor of green energy that have resulted in EVERY single form of green energy costing a fraction of what it did when he came into office, recognizing and extending federal benefits to same sex couples before the Supreme Court decision legalizing same sex marriage nationwide, (oh, and appointing two justices who made that decision) created a government agency to protect the everyday person from corporate abuses, (which was responsible for bringing to light the practices of Wells Fargo opening accounts for customers without their knowledge, for example) halving the unemployment rate, expanding the benefits of a number of college grants to the poor and middle class, attempting to close the pay gap that women face, etc.
But yeah, other than that, what has Obama done for us?

In my experience a lot of white women have much the same kind of fetishes and curiosities/objectification of minority men (mostly black and latinos) that white men have with minority women, it just doesn't necessarily get as much attention mostly because the latter has some more systemic/institutional baggage with it making it an easier problem to notice.
Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Trump has said similar things about women of color in the past.

I don't think Trump is racist in that specific old-fashioned sense. Honestly, he's probably too out of touch with the common people for that, not to mention too confident to seriously fear their encroachment. He's more racist in a narcissistic "everyone else exists for my amusement" sense. IE: His comment about the former Miss America as "Miss Housekeeper". That just indicates how he normally interacts with Latina women in his life: as servants.

I don't know, judging by some of the things he's said, he doesn't seem like he'd go for anyone other than white women.

Oh God! Natural light!I suppose it's possible.
Then again, Michelle Obama is very popular, and I wouldn't call her a legitimate political target like the President is. Maybe he realizes that there are some people even he can't attack without the public turning on him en masse.
I mean, how many people have gone after Michelle Obama?

Oh God! Natural light!Rush Limbaugh once tore into her because she dared suggest people needed to drink more water.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Remember that time in 2008 when Trump lavished praise on the Clintons?
How did the Republicans not manage to dig stuff like this, or the Howard Stern records up? These could have hurt him in the primaries (if the vote wasn't split...) and they were all public record.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()
The impression I've gotten is that they didn't take him seriously, so they didn't bother.
I admit that I understand that to a point (it's hard to take Trump seriously as many things, businessman and politician being the most prevalent), but it turned out to be an enormous mistake on their part.
It's been pointed out that they didn't really understand a lot of their base and what they really wanted.

Eh, there are enough (usually white) women who say things like that so I'm not surprised, but I have to admit the headline got a chuckle out of me as a mixed-race person.
