Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Summing up Trump:
- No one respects women more than me
- Such nasty woman
The thing about Obama isn't that he did great things, is that he managed to govern well despise all the house being stacked against him.
Inherited a massive economic crisis and two wars in foreign soil, had to deal with a Republican congress and senate actively trying to undermine him and overall had to deal with the fallout of a strong recession.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I felt like Clinton, despite a couple of obvious dodges, completely owned the debate. It always went where she wanted to, and for the first time I got the feeling that she left him without an answer to the punches she gave - not even "Wong".
It is also quite obvious Trump was thoroughly unprepared for the debates. Comparing both final statements really says it all about the candidates.
And the moderator was excellent.
Wow, Trump's campaign manager just left without fully answering the question.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.CNN's saying that he did alright at first, but that refusing to say that he would accept the results was a huge misstep, and that his failure to press her on stuff like the Bill Clinton allegations in favor of defending himself wasn't good either.
Right now, they're calling it a "disaster" for Trump.
Oh God! Natural light! To expand on what I said last page, Dana Bash was interviewing Kelly Ann Conway, asking her if Trump was going to accept a loss and she just said some nonsense crap before leaving her hanging, literally.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite. The LA times
scored the debate on each issue.
A little over half are wins for Clinton, a little under half were tied. No Trump wins.
I didn't get to watch the debate but does Trump look like someone who would actually bother to properly prepare for anything regardless of its importance?
He was probably like "Hahaha, preparation is for losers and nerds!!! I'll just go there and blow her away, just like I did last time!!! Go me!!!".
...I haven't watched the debate as I'm studying for my Arabic Midterm at LSU but I've managed to catch some bits here and there on 538 and the idea that he may or may not accept the election results if he loses is just...even if this is just more empty talk, this, this is legitimately dangerous. The idea that someone could seriously try to claim this contradicts one of the unspoken foundations of Democracy: if somebody loses, they accept the loss. To not accept your loss, to try to put out a conspiracy theory about the election being rigged, it undermines the basic ideal that makes democracy worthwhile. To try to pull this bullshit...I was waiting for this election to be over so I could get the mouthwash but now I feel like the taint of this will never leave us. Mr. Drumpf, you should just stayed a shitty reality show host, a shitty businessman, and a overall piece of shit. At least then, your actions wouldn't affect HISTORY itself.
Is this what feels like to be a part of history? To watch things go south and not be able to stop it? That's what it feels like: we're about to turn a page in the history books and head into some SHIT.
Actually, this does make me wonder how the election will look in school history books.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.

@kkhohoho
I mean, I'd call it mediocre if you want.
Did Obama do anything huge of note? Things that will be remembered and referenced decades from now.
