The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

But I doubt we get serious change under Clinton either.

That depends on what you mean by serious change and how fast. If you're expecting serious, complex issues to actually be resolved quickly you were never going to get that no matter who was president.

Trump says voting for Clinton means 4 more years of Obama.

I take it that's an endorsement for Clinton, then?

EDIT: Damn ninja.

There we are. Realistically I feel like Trump's already at his floor, this debate won't really change much.

My overall impression: Overall Clinton won big (again) and Trump looked like a fool, but the moderater called out Clinton on a couple things that don't sit quite well with me. I'm still all for Clinton, but the idea of a conflict with Russia gets my anxiety going.

@Parable: I'm not sure what debate they watched if that's the case, and that gets me a bit worried that somehow through some media sorcery and extreme bell curves, Trump "won." Not that it'll matter at this point. Either he's headed for a decisive loss or there's a huge polling error (turnout collapsing for some reason is the only possibility that's even remotely plausible) that won't be apparent until the election is over.

Four more years of Obama, but with a Congress that isn't completely dominated by obstructionist assholes sounds great.

@Captain, you are probably right, though Clinton probably blunted any chance he had at recovering for a while.
