Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

WALLACE: Mr.Trump, in the last debate, you said several things that were wrong.

@Hardcoreofcakes: They're long dead military strategists who are possibly unsuited to the modern day military situation. More importantly, I think he ought to be bringing generals who are currently alive and actually having to deal with this shit, as I think their opinion is more immediately important. I'd probably disagree with a lot of generals, but seriously. Two dead guys are kind of irrelevant except in a "lessons learned from the past" sort of way. The currently alive generals actually know what's going on.
So Trump just made a pseudo-reasonable point regarding the likelihood of the rebels we're supporting being a Full-Circle Revolution if they got into power.
The difference between the questions is striking. Trump gets asked about lying in the last debate, Clinton gets asked for technical details about her no-fly zone plan and how to work it.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranDead guys are irrelevant? Maybe depending on context? But in the context of Trump, they were kind of relevant.
Besides, your last point of "lessons of the past" was kind of what he was referencing them for.
Wallace: "Mr. Trump, experts say that your plan will raise the national debt by 105%."
Trump: "THEY'RE WRONG!"
Oh God! Natural light!

I don't think it ever got that bad in the previous debates.
