Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trump is going to try and bring up the emails, make terrible "points" and try to deny and lie about his racism and sexism.
Hillary is going to be well-prepared and know what she's talking about
Trump supporters won't be deterred nor will Hillary supporters and anyone who's a swing vote shouldn't be a swing vote at this point like jfc
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeThey probably already have one, worthwhile and well-fulfilled, and resent that anyone would suggest otherwise. Probably the very thing they are told to "get a life" over is what makes their life interesting and exciting, to themselves.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Malik Obama
Basically he's pissed that Obama killed Quadafi and didn't use his status as President to help his political career in Kenya. Also he has serious daddy issues. Honestly I kind of feel bad for the guy.

Harry Reid has never given a fuck and always been a confrontational sort. (Maybe it comes from having been a boxer.)
There's a somewhat well known story about when he was a local politician in Nevada, and someone tried to bribe him. Reid reported it, wore a wire, waited until the guy incriminated himself on tape, and then began to beat the crap out of the bastard. The agents there to arrest the dude had to protect him from Reid.
When he first announced his intention to retire, he also threw a lot of shade around, mostly at Republican colleagues in the Senate.
He did a lot of political tightrope walking, being a Democrat from Nevada, but he could certainly spit fire when he wanted to.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |It interests me that, in a behaviour analyst's article about looking for lies and deceptions, the very first paragraph is itself deceptive - the analyst phrasing of Trump and Clinton not being 100% honest is done in such a way as to create a false equivalence, as if they are comparable in this particular situation, and also ignores any impact media and political agendas may have had - over numerous years - on how the public perceives these candidates (given a later paragraph that indicates the author believes - and certainly speculates - that Hilary's reputation for lying is down to her habit of pausing before she answers a question).
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. It's Chris Wallace of FOX. General opinion around here is that he's one of the more sane people on that network (TIL he's the son of Mike Wallace) and isn't necessarily going to be favorable to Trump.

If someone wants to keep an eye on Fivethirtyeight's live blog about the debate, you can find it here
. I'm not sure if I'll follow it - I don't tend to do other stuff while I listen to these debates, except maybe post here. Still, it's a nice thing to have and I'll probably have it open.
In watching the introductory part of the stream on You Tube, I learned what the six agenda items are. Not one of them is climate change. For shame.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

How do you guys think this debate is gonna play out?
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.
