Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

To what end was this decade long smear campaign anyways? Obviously they'll talk shit about any democrat but I got the impression they REALLY had it out for the clintons.
Trump is remarkably thin-skinned but he also never learns anything. No verbal beatdown will ever motivate him to act in any way other than what he already does.

People who hate political correctness tend to be the thinnest skinned people around (not surprising, considering that they consider being told to stop insulting people to be a personal attack), but yeah, Trump will likely just play this up as the world being biased against him and return to business as usual.
Question: these accusations that the DNC is sending protesters to Trump rallies - where are they coming from? Are they accurate?
Oh God! Natural light! If he wins Utah's electoral votes, or if splitting the conservative vote with Trump causes the state to go to Clinton, either way he'll have earned himself a blurb in history books.

Okay, but there was apparently some sort of video?
I'd like more details than that, is all I'm saying.
Oh. Now I'm very interested.

Oh God! Natural light!
Here you go.
I'd quote the article as IIRC WaPo has a soft pay wall but I'm on mobile at the moment.

Oh wow Cruz has lost the plot in spectacular fashion.
Ted Cruz is apparently worried about ‘mandatory sex change operations’ under Hillary
Alright, having read the article, it sounds like that while the videos were edited, there also seems to have been some truth to these accusations.
Seriously, what are the facts here?

Oh God! Natural light!Reminder: James O'Keefe practically needs to perform
Manipulative Editing of something in order to maintain lower brain functions.
Not terribly many. Those people whose quotes he presented out of context and cut up worked for the Florida Democratic Party, not Hillary's campaign.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotOh wow, okay, this guy isn't reliable in the slightest. So of course, Trump uses his stuff.
Oh God! Natural light! There's a lot more stuff in these leaked emails showing that she's into fracking and the XL pipeline and against those who protest it.
Fuck you, Hil. You're lucky Trump is your opponent.
Also, screw those Democrats who chose her. Hillary may be qualified to run the USA, but certainly not to lead them. Now we're (stuck) with her.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Take it with a grain of salt, man. Russia's been caught manipulating the information in the e-mails before it goes to Wikileaks, so while it's unfortunately possible that she said those things and that she sees fracking entirely in terms of its merits (we're a net exporter again, political calculus is easier), we're no longer able to give Wikileaks the benefit of the doubt, if indeed we ever were. And I caucused for Sanders, but that didn't read like she was going after Sanders supporters as a whole, just a disaffected group focused on an ideal solution to our energy problems.

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."While I disagree with her on fracking (though the state law here seems to have been doing a good job keeping that out) she's not totally wrong about oil. You can't simply flip off oil production like a lightswitch without consideration for what replaces it and what jobs would be obsoleted by it.
(Incidentally, if my mom gets wind of her being pro-fracking then trying to swing her back toward Hillary is going to be a lost cause. It's the one big national political issue that is very locally relevant here.)

There's apparently something in there to like about Clinton if you're pro-nuclear power, since the Russians or the other powers-that-be seem unlikely to fabricate that particular bias.

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."

I don't think she's even had a direct run in with him and she just seems so done with his bullshit. It's kind of hilarious.
