Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Men are treating this as a normal election, women are not.
This already been pretty apparent but it never hurts to go further.

Would this be the appropriate thread for discussing the North Dakota Pipeline? I think I already brought it up before here. A bunch of contractors are building this oil pipeline on Native American land. The story that's trending right now is how this journalist is facing charges for, well reporting it. Personally I think this is drawing attention away from the main issue, which is how these companies are screwing over these people

Stein isn't even remotely qualified for the job, and even if she were, the political demographic she represents has absolutely no business anywhere near the government of this country.
The North Dakota pipeline conflict has been mentioned before in this thread but hasn't gotten a lot of attention other than head shaking and acknowledgment that it's pretty shitty.

She thinks "wireless" causes cancer, uses anti-vaxxer dog whistles and has questionable ties to Russia as well. Yeah, no.

I recall hearing that there was a federal government order to stop work already in place shortly after the arrest of the reporter, but my recollection is rather vague.
EDIT: Moved to a new post

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot![]()
Eh, no. Vandalizing equipment as a form of protest is illegal, however one may view it from a moral point of view, and if all of Hillary's non-crimes can be held against her, actual crimes ought to be taken even more seriously from another candidate.
I won't go so far as to say that Stein is an idiot; she might be quite smart, for all I know. However, she is most certainly willing to act as the spokesperson for some blatantly stupid and fact-immune people, and that's more than enough to disqualify her for me.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Remember Kathy Shelton? The woman whose rapist was defended by Hillary Clinton? The one who's been attacking her for that? She was paid $2500 by Roger Stone's PAC to do that
. Well, this would vindicate manosphere types if doing so wasn't in their benefit...
Fortunately, there's one more debate still to come, so Trump still has an opportunity to shit on Pence's efforts. "We haven't talked about that and I completely disagree!"
There's a mild overlap because the less-than-progressive cultural values expressed in Japanese media tend to be very appealing to the same kind of people who go Alt-Right. I get where it's coming from; Japan's not exactly a bastion of racial or sexual equality, and their lop-sided social values seep into anime a lot - and are ultimately similar to the values that Alt-Righters are pushing for.
However, I would say more Alt-Righters are anime fans than anime fans are Alt-Righters. Not everyone watches anime and goes, "Yeah, now THAT'S a woman who knows her place, whoop whoop!"
You'd be amazed at how many people with MLP:FIM avatars I've seen unironically arguing antifeminist talking points about how men are the REAL victims, rape culture's a lie, etc. etc. For some reason, the show has a massive following with MRAs and lop-sided EgalitariansHey! .
I can't help but wonder how much of its appeal from men comes from having a bunch of female characters with cute voices and attractive personalities, rather than anything the show is actually supposed to be about.
Hell, I saw a pickup truck driving around with two confederate flags sticking up in the back just a couple months ago. I'm in Colorado. We weren't even a STATE yet!
This election has brought out the crazy in a lot of people.
I mean, that's not exactly a lot of money. I make that in a month, and I'm on the poverty side.

To the extent that you can take spray painting a bulldozer seriously anyway. It's dumb and unbecoming a would-be President but no one's losing their shirt, job or life over it.
Multiple? Do we have a tall tale growing in the telling here or were there actual other incidents?

@Vandalizing: Dude, are you bringing up legality on a protest against government-sanctioned crimes? What cliché are you going to line up next, that it's disruptive? Going too fast? A response to something that's not really a problem?
Legality is not a measure of morality. Not where digital piracy and dealing pot can land you in jail longer than rape and murder, and big business get away with horrible crimes with a slap on the wrist and no admission of wrongdoing.
Doesn't mean I'm endorsing her. She's a horrible presidential candidate. I'm just congratulating her on one good thing she did.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
If Clinton had spray-painted a bulldozer, the "fair and balanced" media would be holding mock debates about whether public opinion calls for her execution, and you know it. The only reason nobody takes it seriously is because Stein is already a fucking joke.

Oh God! Natural light!
Hear hear.
@Fighteer: The media are actually mean and unfair to Clinton. We get it. This isn't about her. And yes, Stein is a joke, and not even a good one. It would be much more admirable if those candidates actually had principled stances, knowing that they have absolutely no chance of winning anyway.
@Evil bronies: if they don't get that Equestria is full of problems and that the embrace of diversity, compassion, friendship, and equality that is done there is an ongoing, daily struggle, then nothing more needs to be said about their cognitive ability.

Before Trump's tape came out, the controversial locker room talk was Colin Kapernick's interview defending the BLM movement.
