Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not sure if this is better in the Men's Issues thread, but in better news Obama signed an act passed by the House for more changing tables in men's rooms
.
The Wanderer: I agree with you about an inspiring platform vs. a practical one. I have felt that way myself. I, as usual for myself, wanted to have my cake and to eat it too when I posted that.
Do not obey in advance. You know the joke about Trump's tax returns hiding a donation to the NAMBLA has stopped being funny, first 15 year olds in changing rooms, now 10 year olds at Trump tower... fuck... there's a reasonable posssbility that Trump might have done something to a child at some point. Is that gonna be our final surprise? Trump being implicated in the international rich-man pedo ring?
This fucking year...
X3 Would probably go down well over there if nothing else.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranShe's fucking TEN years old for fucks sake.
Good Lord.
How is it that this man's support hasn't collapsed? HOW?! HOW!?
Yeah, I know "Fuck minorities" and all that. But I can't, right now. My mind literally refuses to accept the fact that so many swaths of people hate people of color so much that they'll be willing to vote for a potential pedophile/rapist.
New Survey coming this weekend!Yep.
His alt-right voter base could watch a tape of him saying that women who don't vote for him should be raped and they'd still see it as a plus.
Also the amount of denial among Trump alt-right supporters is reaching hilarious levels, they honestly believe those tapes are increasing Trump's support and he isn't losing voters because of a "silent majority" or because they think just because they are the loudest mouths in the race it means they are winning.
Inter arma enim silent legesI've lurked, for awhile, but I have to come out and say this.
There's no coming back from this. The Republican Party '"HAS to be destroyed at all levels, local, county, state, and national. They are a legitimate''' threat to both the Republic and with their increasingly toxic, racist, and climate-change denial base, the entire planet itself.
They can't continue to be regarded as a legitimate governing party after this.
The newspapers aren't particularly claiming to be unbiased when it comes to Trump Their editorial departments have come out very strongly against Trump, including dozens of papers that either rarely endorse candidates or have always endorsed Republican candidates. When Trump blacklists certain papers like the Washington Post from his events because they wrote things he didn't like and threatens their owners with legal action
, you bet they're going to circle their First Amendment wagons.
They've had twenty years digging for material on Hillary, so with Trump they have a lot of catching up to do.

Watch.
Had me in tears.
New Survey coming this weekend! In other things: Harumph. So I'm looking at the Senate race for NY which is incumbunt Charles Schumer (D) vs Wendy Long (R). (And a Green and a Libertarian candidate).
Long held a "Women for Trump" rally in Albany this week which should tell you all you need to know about the level of nutjob she is. Schumer's held his seat for 18 years (and was in the House before that) and gone without any really serious scandals and is likely next in line for Harry Reid's job as party leader in the Senate. Am disappointed to learn, however, that he was one of the sponsors of PIPA (and seems to have issues with internet topics in general), which in any other race would be a big mark against him for me.
That said, he otherwise has a strong consumer rights track record (though contrasted by what some would call too close a relationship to Wall Street and been the source of some careless statements that likely accelerated the 2008 crash) and I've observed him respond proactively to things about which his constituents are getting noisy (like a time a few years ago Time Warner Cable tried to impose pretty massive internet bandwidth caps on existing customers.)

the timesTrump decides now is the time to bring it up? Even if it was all absolutely true it's despicable forthe timesTrump to use those women, and in such a blatant attempt at attackingtrumpClinton.edited 12th Oct '16 5:38:19 PM by BlueNinja0
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - Silasw
