Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That's not her fault, though. Your comment made it sound like both campaigns were equally lacking in substance. Even if a lot of people think that's the case, that doesn't change what she (or Sanders for that matter) were actually saying and trying to get at.
x3How many people listen to campaign speeches or platform points unless they're part of a debate, an ad or a candidate('s spokesperson) going on a tv show? I suspect very few people who aren't invested in watching politics the way other people watch sports or who watch 24 hour cable news.

I never said it was her fault. At worst, it's our fault as a society which she is a part of. Sanders would have faced
the same problem, and so would any conservativeintellectual running against a Hugo Chavez analogue. (Or Donald
trump running on the democratic ticket.)

As I predicted, 538 has Trump's percent chance of winning the Presidency fall to single-digits in their Now-Cast.
Still too high in my opinion, but if Hillary can push Trump's chances down just another 9.3% I'll be happy.
In addition it appears that initial post-debate polls show that Trump did not get a bump from the second debate.
This isn't terribly surprising since the consensus was that Clinton won, but but there was some question as to how it would impact the polls since the consensus was also that Trump exceeded expectations.
Side topic: Anyone know what resources there are for researching the candidates on local tickets (Congress, state, county, etc)? Wikipedia and Google obviously.
(I am not going to necessarily vote a straight D ticket sight unseen but any Republican that endorsed Trump in any way will be disqualified.)

Trump Supporters' answer to 538 saying Trump would win if women weren't voting: repeal the 19th Amendment
http://www.politicususa.com/2016/10/12/trump-supporters-launch-effort-vote-women.html
Reminds me of an episode of The Man Show where the hosts did a bit about a petition to end womens' suffrage.

The 2005 tape is probably what pushed a lot of people over the edge in that place and brought Trump's misogyny to the forefront of the discussion.
Personally the 2005 tapes have pushed me to drop any pretext of being apologetic about voting for Clinton. Because I should not apologize for doing what little I can to keep someone who is unfit to run a pickup group in World of Warcraft note , let along the country, from becoming President.
The brand of misogyny of the GOP is different from Trump's and alt-right though.
The GOP treats women like they don't know better but also as if every women should have their sanctity preserved whether they like it or not, Trump on the other hand shows the kind of misogyny typical of men who not only see women as property but also disrespect the sacred vows of marriage and the chaste integrity of a family man.
Which is a big no-no for traditional and religious conservatives.
Inter arma enim silent legesThen again Politicus is blatantly leftist-partisan in its own way, and thus inclined to paint this as clandestine actions of the mainstream GOP. Which is pretty disingenuous, though nothing's changing the fact that those tweets exist.
Telling.

I doubt most Republicans are actually in favor of repealing the 19th Amendment.
Anyway, Putin ally tells Americans: vote Trump or face nuclear war
.
...How concerned should we be about this?
Oh God! Natural light!Right, so...if Putin starts making "subtle" hints about nuclear weapons, what should be done then?
Oh God! Natural light!
