Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So it looks like the lack of a ground game in battle ground states is hurting the gop.
You left off a few digits on the Democrats' number.
For all that Trump's supporters are astonishingly vocal on social media and in the general public sphere, there has been some significant concern about how many will actually turn out to vote.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Look, I hate 'em as much as the next guy, but let's not call them that. We don't need to call anybody "retarded" or some variation thereof to make our points against them.
They are, however, shitstains.
Oh God! Natural light!
I agree.
There are a lot of problems with how we handle things like mental health here in America.
It pisses me off at how much toxic masculinity hurts men. But no, I'm the sexist because I don't want to vote for Trump.
Rant mode: NOT ALL MEN ARE LIKE THIS! STOP TRYING TO THROW YOUR WHOLE GENDER UNDER THE BUS TO MAKE YOUR ASS LOL BETTER!
Even at my most cynical, I never thought that all men talk like this in locker rooms or any other typically male environment.
I think the people who do think that all men are like this secretly want it to be true because then they could do whatever they want. They want to normalize it to justify their own choices and avoid responsibility.
I don't hate American men. Or women. What I hate is when people who hurt others and shirk responsibility for such choices.
But I have to take responsibility for what I do, too. I ain't no saint. I have to make sure what I do and say actually matches what I feel.

Do not obey in advance.i've heard way too many crass jokes about women's rights like up to a decade before this election started, don't want to imagine the kind of stuff happening in 4chan and other communities like it right now.
I think what a lot of misguided people speaking on Trump's commentsnote are trying to say is that lustful feelings are a natural part of being a man (unless you're asexual, I suppose), and are not necessarily destructive or wrong. I think that on some level talking about those desires with other men is something that will naturally happen, and while it can often and very easily steer into misogyny and objectification it doesn't necessarily have to.
Even under that lens though it's impossible to defend Trump because his comments go way overboard into rape apologia and thinking he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants, without any regard for women's consent, entirely because he's THE DONALD. There's a fine line between "YO THAT GIRL WAS FINE DAAAAWG" and "GRAB THEM BY THE PUSSY".

Trump Supporters, Trump says vote on Nov. 28!

Exactly. I've heard locker talk all my life, and I've heard some crass shit.
But I've never heard a guy talk about straight up sexually assaulting someone.
If middle school and high school boys are acting more mature then you, you're doing something wrong.

One thing that some people like Trevor Noah on the Daily Show brought up is that Donald and Billy weren't in a locker room when they said that horrible crap.
Trevor Noah also pointed out the difference between saying crude stuff and outright predatory illegal stuff.
Also, it is incredibly disturbing how they were making predatory and lewd remarks one moment and seconds later acted all nice and friendly to Arianne Zucker, and Billy Bush even cajoled her into giving a hug to Donald.
Yuck.
Speaks volumes about what is really worrying him.

Disgusted, but not surprised...Just to be clear, are you referring to my earlier post?
Because I wasn't really being serious. I suppose I should have made that clear, and maybe it wasn't the most sensitive joke. But I assure you, I don't hate my own gender.
...Of course, if that wasn't in response to me, then feel free to ignore this, and I apologize for my self-centeredness here.

Oh God! Natural light!
I'm pretty sure that was concerning Donald's Lame Excuse. One that, infuriatingly enough, his supporters are also using to justify his behavior.
@Karkat: No, it was not directed at you. It was directed at the Lame Excuse in general. Sorry for the confusion.
Do not obey in advance.Oh, it's fine. Again, I apologize for making it about me. I just tend to worry that I'll say something wrong, so I guess I panic a little too easily in that regard.
Anyway, I wonder if Clinton might benefit from bringing up Trump University (if she hasn't already?).
Oh God! Natural light!Yes, that's probably a good idea.
Any idea what we can expect in the next week until the last debate?
Oh God! Natural light!
