Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Haven't it been established that that doesn't actually matter? Trump himself could quit if he wanted, regardless of what is on the ballots. Furthermore, technically people don't actually vote for the candidates anyway.

Bill Clinton's rape accusers are in the audience.
This could get ugly...
(I mean, we already know that it will be, but more so now...)
Oh God! Natural light!I think that only the selected audience members will be able to say something.
Still, maybe they'll interrupt the candidates?

Oh God! Natural light!I'm not sure about fully swinging an election, but comments that become essentially the only headline about the debates can create quite a swing.
In the 1988 Vice-Presidential debate, Dan Quayle (R) was asked whether he had enough experience to be President, if the need should arise. He responded by saying he had as much experience as Kennedy did. The reply from Lloyd Bentsen (D) was:
(Note that Bush still won, but Quayle's popularity never recovered.)
Then there's Reagan, asked whether his age is a problem:
So a bit of a joke, a bit of charisma, can go a long way.

Yeah, saw both of them in the videos I mentioned, and I already knew about the Quayle thing.
Also, I think Trump's still sniffling.
