Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm personally waiting for him to call her an "unfuckable lardass", though that would just be the icing on his intensely sexist cake at this rate.
I'm convinced that Trump is desperate to assert something through the way he seems proud of how he treats woman. Heterosexuality? General toxic masculinity? I don't know.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Trump seems to suffer from deep-seated self-loathing that causes him to act this way, but I don't think he's self-aware or reflective enough for that.
Do not obey in advance. It would also be a blatant case of the pot calling the kettle black. No woman would have sex with him unless he paid her, in one fashion or another. Including his wives, I'll bet.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank. The whole "boys will be boys" dismissive attitude is based in victim blaming. If a guy creeps on a woman with that attitude, it's supposed to absolve him of any responsibility for his own actions.
Sadly, it seems to work.
Also, Billy Bush laughed at Trump's "pussy" comment. Just wanted to point that out. He laughed.
Yep!

Self-loathing is weird thing. You would think that if you technically hated yourself, you'd take your own life or whip yourself constantly, or just be ashamed 24/7 or something. Rather, it manifests in a form of "escape" in the form of things like addiction, disproportionate egotism, anything that distracts you from........you.

Self-hatred is... complicated. Most people only want to do things that are easy, and for them, turning that hatred outward is easier.
I once read a Cracked article about racists that featured a former KKK member (or was it a neo-nazi? I can't remember), and he claimed that he didn't really hate black people, just that he was looking for an outlet to vent his frustrations.
I have noticed that Trump has an odd delay when he refers to African-Americans. Almost like he's checking with himself to see if he's sure that's a term for Black people in this country. It's weird. IDK if any of you folks on here have noticed that or if I'm hallucinating.

Do not obey in advance.Frankly, I don't think Trump could do self-loathing if you handed him a step-by-step guide. I peg him as having the kind of narcissistic personality disorder which couldn't find enough objectivity to sit back and self-reflect for anything.
All subjective all the time, baby. And, stuck in the now, even though he can remember yesterday. Not so sure he's all that good at tomorrow, either... otherwise, he wouldn't suck so badly with businesses. :/ Visualising consequences is not among his strongest suits.

Easy... The video that was leaked was just found. Someone at Access Hollywood remembered having tapes of Trump's misogyny on camera so they dug through the archive and found this tape. It was to be on the next episode of Access Hollywood when someone at NBC leaked the tape to the Washington Post.
Lack of satisfaction is not necessarily self hatred. In any case, Trump has a huge ego.
My question is what happens when people point out his refusal to pay up for his contracts to people who say they're impressed with his business acumen. Traditionally, a refusal to pay your employees and contractors tends to lead to not having a good business reputation.

I see. I didn't know that. I wonder who archived it without revealing it before now... Probably another person afraid of getting sued or their career destroyed by someone richer and more powerful than them.
A constant need for attention doesn't always mean self-loathing. Loneliness, maybe. There are probably countless reasons why someone would constantly need external acknowledgement.

There is a rumor that NBC actually intentionally leaked the tape to the Washington Post so that they would not be culpable to a lawsuit from Trump. Sometimes companies will intentionally leak something to the press if they are worried about legal issues.

Some people are just born incapable of certain aspects of metacognition in the same way some people are born with dyslexia fouling up their symbolic processing.
The brain is complex, and it can bork in very many interesting ways, some of it congenital, environmental or through injury. <shrugs> You can never say for certain why somebody is the way they are without a thorough patient history, several psychometric tests and an ECG or two.
And, Trump isn't mid-range, so you can forget standard explanations.

If I may suggest... let's not dig too deeply into Trump's head, shall we? It's not a healthy place to be.
Personally, I don't give a dead rat's patootie what his motives are. I just want him to lose the election, and go back to being that mildly annoying pop-culture reference left over from the Eighties.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Just seen on Twitter as a sponsored tweet, Trump's campaign calling tonight "the biggest night of the campaign" and hawking for donations. Gee, what happened to the RNC war chest...ooooh, riiiight....
Also seen on Twitter: Mark Burnett (producer of The Apprentice, Survivor, etc and also apparently a Trump backer) is threatening employees who leak damaging footage.

I'm still waiting for Country Matters come up at some point. Like if he called Clinton the C-word during the debate...that would ruin him entirely.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
