Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Technically, yes. But I'm tired of arguing with my family and attempting to defend a candidate that I'm not especially fond of. She's a million times better than Trump, but everyone else in this family is convinced otherwise. Also, my vote doesn't count. It does on everything else, but when it comes to the presidential vote, this state's decision is already foretold.

There are actually several redder states than Louisiana, including but not limited to Wyoming, Arkansas, West Virginia, Idaho, Tennesse, Nebraska's two at-large electoral votes, Oklahoma, and the actual reddest electoral vote on the map, Nebraska's third district (however, in my neck of the woods, Nebraska's second district has roughly 50/50 odds of going red or blue).
538 says that the Trump tapes could mean that a Clinton landslide (a double digit victory in popular vote) is now slightly more likely than Trump winning at all.

It's worth noting that Hillary has 40% of Louisiana vote.
Of the states that are so Red that they'd still be safely Red even if Hillary wins the popular vote by a landslide, Louisiana is the least Red.
But really what I'm getting at is that the whole 'Red state / Blue state' thing is self-enforcing and more defined by prespection than reality. Trump's strongest state, Wyoming, still has 29% percent of the vote going Blue
. And I'm pretty sure that'd be notable higher if everyone who said 'what's the point of voting Blue in a Red state' voted anyway.
And, of course, the reverse is true for 'Blue' states like New York and California.

First Skittles and now this, the makers of Tic Tacs have denounced Trump over the video.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.A Week in Trump...and the New Dawn... Trump's week summarized.
Robert De Niro has been quoted saying he wants to punch Trump in the face. Now, now, if DeNiro did, he'd probably get sued, especially because Trump loves to sue people. But DeNiro is probably thinking it'd be Worth It.

1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVI want to be happy about that, but I expected better from Mc Cain a long time ago.

Notice how all the women have their crotches covered near Trump
New Survey coming this weekend!I was out shopping today at our local flea market, and one of the stands had Trump banners, tee shirts, and a life-sized stand-up cardboard cutout of The Donald Himself, in addition to their other merchandise. I took one look at the cutout, and immediately thought: "That would make a nice target at the shooting range..."
