The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

They're Russian puppets, of course they're trying to ruin America.

What's not to get?

Anyone wanna take bets on how many times during those banking speeches that Hillary talks about groping pussies?

Scottie Nell Hughes was just interviewed about the Billy Bush tape on CNN, and her defense of Trump was to bring up Benghazi.

At least once per speech, though in the same manner as Al Bundy from Married... with Children (as in her own groin).

Seriously. That makes me feel sick. A classic example of women being blamed and men getting off scott free for their indiscretions.

I must admit, I did not predict "grab 'em by the pussy" would be the "47 percent" of this election...

Frankly, we've seen so much crap barely move the polls that I'm not prepared to believe this will change anything unless it does.

...for that matter, "47 percent" refers to...?

This makes 47% look like a Biden gaffe by comparison.

Is wikileaks even pretending to be balanced anymore or are they officially on the trump train?

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

They stopped pretending pretty quickly after the DNC leak release.

Wikileaks are nothing more than Russian assets. Fallen Hero would apply if they had been heroic in the first place.

Yeah, dude. 'Military strategy' is not applicable to immigration issues right now. We are not fighting a war with Mexico.

You'll also have to excuse my eyes rolling ever so slightly at the repetition of debunked right-wing memes like "Benghazi! Hillary's a Crook! It's her fault she was cheated on because she...praised her husband! even though...look, just attack her, ok!?"

The Great Wall was built to defend against nomadic raiders on horseback thousands of years ago when a wall with military garrisons was an actual deterrent.

Also, probably built mostly with conscripted labor meaning yes, some people do rag on it.

Also, insert "not sure if serious..." image macro here. (Edit: Never mind, saw the posts that got in ahead of mine and I'm done here.)

More on where the video came from. It came from an Access Hollywood shoot and the "Nancy" was then-host Nancy O'Dell.

AH dug it up from their archives and were planing to break it but the Post scooped them.

Oof, yeah, the timing for that Wikileaks dump couldn't have been "worse" in terms of deflating the impact of Trump's comments, as apparently this was part of it.

What we see on the left is, in its own way, more disconcerting. The early data suggests that while the minority base is probably still dominated by the Democratic messaging, a coalition of sub altern interests is forming that could, with an extremely weak Republican nominee, create an aperture for either a 3rd Party Victory or, in essence, an election inflection point where an insurgent candidate could actually co-opt (.) Take over (.) a major party.

This coalition, a collection of generally under-represented, low social capital individuals has become increasingly networked and increasingly motivated. This group that our analysts are calling the ((Makes air quotes)) bucket of losers could not only be a significant force in the next election but could, on an outside percentile, even win.

Yeah, I gotta admit that this one really rankles me, if it's true. I'll still hold my nose and vote for her over Trump, but god fucking damn it's infuriating.
