Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Here's the thing, people tend to care a lot more about the presidential candidate than the VP one, I'd say that Trump has got hit a lot more than Clinton so far, which may well work out well for the Dems.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranDid you not see the Presidential debate? Trump wore a blue tie and Clinton wore a red dress. I think it is tradition now for the candidates to wear the opposing party's color during the debates. In the debates, the Democrat wears red and the Republican wears blue. Don't quote me on that though.

Wizard Needs Food BadlySomething's weird about my TV - it makes them look like they have shoulders that are 3 feet wide.
Pence is pro adoption. He is bringing up partial birth abortion. I don't understand why we aren't allowed to ban that.
Edit: Oh and Pence's pro life stuff is because god says he knew us before we were in the womb.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.
I'm unfamiliar with that. What is it?
Kaine's on pretty firm ground here with abortion.

Oh God! Natural light!
It's killing a viable fetus as it is being born, I think by cutting it's throat but don't quote me on that.
Edit: Per wikipedia In the U.S., a federal statute defines "partial-birth abortion" as any abortion in which a living fetus is extracted "past the navel [of the fetus]... outside the body of the mother," or "in the case of head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother," if the fetus has already passed

Wizard Needs Food BadlyPence won this one. He's a nutty, Christian-Taliban piece of dried-up rat shit, but he came across as more professional and composed that his opponent. Kained talked and acted like dope fiend. It was like a complete reversal of the previous Clinton/Trump debate.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.
They can. Biden did a great job in 2012 and managed to salvage a rather weak first debate on Obama's part. Pence is no Biden, and Trump's dug a much deeper hole than Obama did, but it's very likely this will blunt the impact of the initial debate.
That won't help if Trump doesn't shape up for the second and third debates, and while I wouldn't rule it out, I wouldn't be surprised if the second debate is as bad as the first.

Actually, going by the Politi Fact feed, it seems that Kaine made his share of stumbles in that regard.
Well, at least this is the only one.
Wonder what Hillary's going to have to say to this.

Oh God! Natural light!

Apparently Trump got a whole 6 minutes into the debate before continuing his tweeting feud with Megyn Kelly.
6 minutes! So presidential! So much stamina! [/sarcasm]
Politico is real. Yes, Gary Johnson really is that dumb, and really does think that ignorance of other countries is a plus.
