Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

And would not go unnoticed. He's way too publicly known.
The imaginative writer part of my brain thought of a possible scenario where Russia decided he's outlived his usefulness and stages his death in a way to look bad for the US but I wouldn't go so far as to seriously suggest that's likely.

@Rational: If the US really wanted to get rid of him, he'd be languishing in a CIA blacksite, bad press be damned. That sort of attention would die down after a while even if they got caught red handed. The real issue is, Assange isn't nearly as important as he'd like to imagine he is. Successfully fucking over Clinton's campaign would put him back on the map though, and I wouldn't put it past the unholy Russo-American partnership to decide he's outlived his usefulness.

The Russo-American partnership is dangling by threads between hacking and Syria. I fear Putin is only going to get bolder unless he gets a response more energetic than diplomatic disapproval. (Last I heard, John Kerry was threatening to stop talking with them if they don't knock it off violating the cease fire over Aleppo.)

Wells Fargo Illegally Repossessed Service Members’ Cars And Now They Have To Pay
They’ll pay a big fine, plus a pile of cash to the service members whose cars were improperly seized.
The reputation of Wells Fargo & Co. took another blow Thursday when it agreed to pay $24.1 million for the improper repossession of cars owned by members of the U.S. military.
The bank agreed to pay $4.1 million to settle a Justice Department investigation into the repossession of 413 cars without the necessary court order from 2008 through the middle of last year in violation of a federal law designed to provide financial protections to active-duty military members. The bank also was fined $20 million by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for violations dating to 2006.
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act requires a court order to repossess a vehicle if the service member took out the loan and made a payment before entering military service.
Assange does seem to have it in personally for Clinton, I wonder if she as Secretary of State when he was important knows things on him and he's lashing out due to fear? I'm sure that the CIA has a file on him, perhaps the women in Sweden aren't the only people he's raped.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranShe would know what Obama already knows. She is noticeably more set in her disapproval of Assange and Snowden (and the role of Wikileaks in the election cycle would compound that) but she's going to have much more difficult things on her plate than worrying about either of them.

Lebron is literally LITERALLY the economy of Cleaveland. When he left for Miami it took a nosedive and didn't recover until he came back.
He was already influential, but him winning the Championship pretty much was the closest thing to Jesus coming down from the sky and saying "I'm with Her!"
New Survey coming this weekend! As someone who actually has optimism, I'm gonna have to disagree. LeBron James is basically the idol for most of Ohio. He's a symbol of hope.
(it also helps he's great financial help thanks to his brand being so sellable butwhoiskeepingtrackhere)
Thank you.

"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"Yeah, Kasich won Ohio by a huge margin, and Trump might struggle to gain some of those votes. Hillary won over Sanders in many areas, such as Cleveland and Akron (iirc).
Oh, and my source for James's influence is Forbes' most influential athletes list if you're wondering. Not to mention knowing a ton of people from there.

"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"@Kostya: Ohio is one of the swing states. If it is likely Clinton, then Trump has already lost.

So he's trying to be as dramatic about this as possible, is what I'm getting. I certainly don't see any other reason he wouldn't just release it all once.
Like, it's going to be clear where he's going with it as soon as he releases anything, which means they'll still have those five weeks and two debates to damage control it, if that's even needed.
