Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It has to be noted that Obama was ''vastly'' leading Romney in the polls
when Romney got the debate bump.
Recently, even though Trumpists wish that weren't true, Clinton was still above.
This topic moves fast. I audited the debate — didn't watch it straight through but caught side chatter and highlights. It seems like Hillary crushed Trump in the department of knowing what she was talking about. Not that this will sway Trump's voters, but it will hopefully give the undecideds the necessary push.
I've been seeinga lot of attack ads against Katie McGinty in my video streaming of late. It's getting kind of nasty over here in PA.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
It's hilarious that we have such a low mental bar for Trump that such things can seem like improvements.
So apparently today is voter registration day. To anyone who hasn't done it yet, please be sure to do so. You don't want to procrastinate this on an election this important.
However, I'm having some confusion on my end. I was raised in New Jersey, and that's where my current drivers license is from. However, I go elsewhere for school, and that's where I'll be during the election. But in the holidays I go to Arizona and that's the closest I have to owning property. So which state do I register under?
I'm going through this day quite tired, as I only got a couple of hours of sleep after watching the debate (it started around 4am in my time zone). It was worth it: it was quite comfortably the most fun Presidential election debate I've seen since Bush v Kerry.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.@ Nerevarine - Students attending school in another state are still considered residents of their home state - it's the major exception to most residency rules. You can decide to vote in either, however, as long as you only vote in one.
If you're only in Arizona for your holiday period, that likely does not count as residency.

I don't know about you guys, but along Morgan Freeman, I wouldn't mind listening things being narrated by Holt all day long.
This is the best Trump picture on the debates.

Fucking surreal...
In other news, the Mexican peso jumped quite a bit after Donald's bruising last night.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. One thing I'm kinda surprised more news outlets aren't focusing on with last night's debate was when Holt asked both candidates if they'd accept if the other candidate won. Hillary's answer was relatively straightfoward ("Well, I support our democracy. And sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But I certainly will support the outcome of this election."), but Trump went off on an unrelated tangent ("I want to make America great again. We are a nation that is seriously troubled. We’re losing our jobs. People are pouring into our country. The other day, we were deporting 800 people. And perhaps they passed the wrong button, they pressed the wrong button, or perhaps worse than that, it was corruption, but these people that we were going to deport for good reason ended up becoming citizens. Ended up becoming citizens. And it was 800. And now it turns out it might be 1,800, and they don’t even know.")
Holt had to ask the question AGAIN, and even then, he didn't answer right away! ("Look, here’s the story. I want to make America great again. I’m going to be able to do it. I don’t believe Hillary will. The answer is, if she wins, I will absolutely support her.")
Last night I was like, "Just answer the fucking question, Trump!"

So, Donald Trump's declaring that the online polls have him the winner. Has he forgotten how easy they are to rig? Heck, this guy showed evidence of people on 4chan purposely seeking out online polls to influence in Trump's favor.
Yeah, real sign of a victory there, Trump!

True, we'll know more after 2nd and 3rd debates (I'm not sure if the Veep debate will have much impact, unless one of them utterly blows it).
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
