Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Also, the real estate developer turned out to be completely incapable of not tooting his own horn hours after the death of 2,996 people
. I don't expect my politicians to express sincerity 24/7, but at least faking some empathy when appropriate should not be too much of an ask for them.
The author of Clinton Cash basically confessed that there was no hard evidence whatsoever that the Clintons actually did anything criminal or ethically questionable in relation to the Clinton Foundation
. REALS BEFORE FEELS
Remember Tony Perkins? That guy who claimed that natural disasters were punishments from God only to have his home destroyed by flooding? Well, Trump attended his hate group's main conference
. Note: No other Republican candidate prior to this has done anything of the sorts.
"Basket of Deplorables" wasn't a gaffe. It was simple truths. There's absolutely nothing to apologize for.
Also, it's so memetically powerful. That's what I'll call a bigot when I recognize one. "Oh, you're one of the deplorable..." (implied pity)

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Sure, though we already have people proclaiming "I'm deplorable and I'm PROUD!"
Appropriated Appellation is still to this day an effective strategy for robbing verbal attacks of their impact, so it's not surprising.
It's like the people who are proud that they are functionally illiterate. Yes I have met people like that. They don't care that it makes them look like a total moron when they can't read a menu, all they care about is that it thumbs the nose at some random teacher they had 40 years ago who said they would have to read every day. And, again, I have met people like that.
So....apparently Clinton had to leave a 9/11 memorial because she felt "overheated".
And the media is playing this up like its more important than the actual fucking anniversary.

This Is Gonna Suck. If nothing else Trump and his band of deplorables will have a field day with this.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. With most, they're using deplorable as a I'm Spartacus! declaration
But really? Saying anywhere from a third to a half of the entire country are just horrible people?
And calling them 'phobics' and 'ist'? That kind of crap is why Trump is being as successful as he is. People are tired of being called a label.

The more impersonal everyday labels like "asshole", "dick", "cunt", and whatnot aren't too much to worry about, since they tend to describe what a person is being at the very moment instead of embodying it inherently.
But the ones created to "brand" people for certain beliefs or opinions or not being completely on your side ("SJW", "-ist", "-phobe", "cuck", etc.) is just the usual toxic "us vs them" mentality that's doing no favors for productive discussion.

.......and yes, I of all people know it can be all too tempting at times to use the latter when one's frightened/angry enough.

The video of Hillary being ushered into the van looks pretty bad honestly. I've seen two versions, one a low res and the other higher.
The low res one looks like maybe she stumbled getting off the curb before getting help stepping into the van. That one made me go whaaa? What's the big deal?
The second one however is much clearer and she's stumbling well before she steps off the curb and looks stiff, and much more obviously being held up to be taken into the van.
Even if she's in perfect health that was a slip up. Just how bad remains to be seen

Now that I look up the meaning of the word "deplorable", it's actually kind of a sympathetic word.
Do not obey in advance.
