Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Oh, come on now; DL Abaoaqu has a point. I mean, sure, from a certain point of view, Hilary's not a monster, but she isn't perfect, and Trump isn't completely irredeemable either. Why, if I recently had a lobotomy, I'd vote for him too, and that's a fact.

Non Indicative UsernameJust remember, if you think the person is a troll, do not respond/engage and just holler.
Otherwise you're taking their bait.
I already hollered, so let's move on.
Annoyingly, on the latest Voting Day, we entirely forgot about it. It's only 3 people, but that's a lot of votes to do, albeit, still a small pool. I definitely want Hillary to win since she's the only feasible option at this point. I generally vote Democrat, mind you.
Shadow?Yeah, because treating one religion the same way we do all others is somehow not being impartial. In any case, we probably shouldn't be talking about what happened in the other thread, but remember this—you got that thread modded, and the talk of "Bloody Hillary" will likely bring the wrath of the mods down in this thread too. If you want to make a point, make a point, but do it without the hyperbole and wild accusations.

If anything, I've complained several times that there's more a lack of enthusiasm for Clinton that anything else. So she's the lesser of two evils, who isn't? You're never going to find a politician who agrees with you 100% of the time. Someone you agree with 80% of the time shouldn't be looked down on as a "lesser evil".
I'd argue the reason why he call the better candidate the "lesser evil" has less to do with the quality of our candidates under most circumstances and more to do with a flaw in how our culture views its political leaders (namely, we're too damn cynical).
Leviticus 19:34@ DLAbaoaqu: Do you think the US Left is not radical enough?
OSCE rights group requests 500 international observers to monitor U.S. presidential vote
A coalition of more than 200 U.S. civil rights groups urged the OSCE in a letter released on Tuesday to provide even more than the 500 observers the OSCE requested based on an assessment it conducted in May. The actual observers will be dispatched by the international security and rights organization's 57 participating states.
The letter from the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights said the OSCE's role was "even more critical" in light of the U.S. Justice Department's July announcement, first reported by Reuters, that it would deploy election observers to far fewer polling sites this year than in previous elections.
Civil rights advocates say voters are more likely to face racial bias at the polls in November than they have in 50 years, because of voting laws that several states passed after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the landmark anti-discrimination 1965 Voting Rights Act three years ago.
Supporters of the laws say they are necessary to combat voter fraud.
"We profess to bring democracy to various parts of the world where we monitor elections, but then our own country is embarrassed by its failure to ensure adequate elections here at home," said Henderson.
OSCE spokesman Thomas Rymer said the number of observers the group hoped to deploy to the United States was fixed at 500 but that the Leadership Conference letter would factor into the group's decision about where to send the observers.
The letter urged the OSCE to focus its resources on eight states in which it said "enhanced voter intimidation efforts" were likely, including Pennsylvania and North Carolina, where the Nov. 8 contest between Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton is expected to be close.

Keep Rolling On"I'm not conservative but Hillary... more like Hitlery rite?" is a surprisingly good way of spotting someone as a Trump-supporting entity.
It's kind of weird to note that the GOP attacks on Hillary might have worked in the sense that we are all painting her as "the least of two evils" despite the entire "most progressive platform ever" issue.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotThe only bias I'd say that exists in this thread is that Fox's continued "we need to purge the entire Republican Party from power, every last one of them!" isn't going challenged and I'm pretty sure isn't something someone would be allowed to say about the Dems.
But no you can criticise Hillary fine, many of us don't because we have other things to do but if someone would like to bring foward a legitimate criticism of Hillary we're all ears.

In light of Trump's 'rigged system' rhetoric and probable encouragement of self-appointed thugs to "watch" polling places, who thought this was a good idea!?!
While it might be fun to play "taunt the troll", our emphasis on civility gives me no choice but to show DLAbaoaqu the door in a permanent fashion. Move along.
