Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"Lesser of two evils"? Communism as a dominant governing ideology has all but vanished except in the minds of a few die-hards, so it's not like anyone needs to take them seriously.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Problem I'm seeing is people will see that the same as the KKK and Neo-Nazis supporting Trump. People don't take them all that seriously anymore, either, but their endorsement of a candidate is still considered telling about that candidate.
But will that matter to public perception?

I would not be surprised if it's true. "Popular fronts" against fascism did become a theme among communists when accellerationism turned out to be a bad idea (free ticket to concentration camps).
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman" if right 'll keep it right, if wrong I'll make it right."
except a this point trump have all but take control of republican party so they can do is shit, ether you die with the party or you jump ship.
" Sure, she offers stability, but she doesn't satisfy the people's desire for change. Who would have thought a nation that is so vibrant and diverse like America can become somewhat stagnant."
consider the time we are running, people consider that stability to be artificial, between that and the whole "killary" thing going on many consider her bringer of ruin
"The GOP has come to embody the idea that straight, white, heterosexual, Christian men's way of life is under attack by women and minorities"
kind off, for what I see is more than "we have a specific way, why everyone isnt join it?" that is why trump focus A LOT in "law binding cititzen" in short Trump is standing for the "correct" type of citizen
"Whether he realizes it or not" he is not, as far he care democracy is good because he wins because he is the best, everything else is cheating
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I still hold my suspicion that Trump is some sort of mole. I'm on the wrong side of Poe's Law all the time though, so probably not.
Someone write that novel, pls
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youHawaii Republican congressional candidate
disavowed by party after going on a racist tirade
◊ against the Japanese on social media.
The candidate previously ran campaign ads mocking the health of a representative who was dying of cancer. I think she's out-trumped Trump.

When seeing stories like that, I oscillate between horror and hilarity at the joke that the Republican Party has become. Of course, this is Hawaii, which couldn't be bluer if someone carpet bombed it with azure paint, but it partly goes to show how Trump continues to inspire those types of people to voice their beliefs publicly.
Unfortunately, that part of his legacy will probably continue long after his candidacy has come to its deserved, ignominious end.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Perhaps ironically, Akie Abe (the Japanese prime minister's wife), just went to pay her respects to Pearl Harbor

Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkele![]()
That paints Azure City and The Sapphire Guard in a really bizarre light
x6 'Donald Trump slammed the door to Trump Tower behind him, laying back against it and breathing heavily for a few moments before regaining his composure. He must have thrown them off the trail, he must have. He wasn't sure who was following him, but with any luck, they had given up the hunt and were on their merry way. Was it Biden perhaps? Maybe Obama? Perhaps even Cruz was trying to find some sort of dirt on Trump so as to consolidate his own bid on the White House and fulfill his own little holy crusade. Or perhaps, just perhaps, it was his greatest enemy of all; his conscience. Not that it mattered. They were gone now. In fact, he was sure the last of them had left ages ago. All that mattered was making a certain phone call before hauling himself off to bed with a bottle of his own specially made Trump Cola waiting for him at his bedstand. Gathering himself, he then marched up the steps and over to the telephone, pressed a button on said phone, and raised the receiver straight to his crusty ear. "Hey there Putin, I think I've got something you'll wanna' hear..." '

I meant a mole meant to sabotage the Republican Party, but that works too
So, reading that tirade I couldn't help but think of the news report
about the C.L.I.T. in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
@ Fighteer:
Hawaii also has a fairly substantial Japanese-American populationnote .
Keep Rolling OnIncidentally, that racist tirade wasn't actually the one the GOP denounced her for
. It was religion-based last week.
“Then Hawaii, YOU can have YOUR so-called ‘perfect’ pathetic Hindu 1000 GODS leader along with YOUR pathetic ‘career politician’ Buddhist Hanabusa, and your pathetic American Traitor, And my family and I will go our merrily way,” Kaaihue wrote in a press release, offering to drop out of the race if Gov. David Ige (D) “and his Japanese constituents” would settle a land dispute she is involved in.
According to the Honolulu Civil Beat, Kaaihue knocked Rohlfing over the weekend, saying that he is heading a “disenfranchised party.”
“I am talking about God, preaching about God, restoring his kingdom back into Hawaii,” Kaaihue said. “This is God’s country, America is God’s country. I am trying to educate people about that.”
To hell with that guy. I'll keep my 'thousand' gods and be merry.

So, I saw a bumper-sticker that, although I'm pretty sure is for Trump, is actually a bit ambiguous. That's a problem in itself but the words don't actually inspire confidence. "I don't know, Trump tho". Anyone else seen this just to confirm what I'm already like 95% certain of already?
