Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns is declared the sickest man ever. But all of his diseases offset each other, so he's "indestructible".

- Doctor: Mr. Trump, I'm afraid you are the sickest man in the United States. You have everything.
- Trump: You mean I have pneumonia?
- Doctor: Yes.
- Trump: Juvenile diabetes?
- Doctor: Yes.
- Trump: Hysterical pregnancy?!
- Doctor: Uh, a little bit, yes. You also have thousands of diseases that have just been discovered, in you.
- Trump: You're sure you haven't just made thousands of mistakes?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
And that is one internet for you, good sir.
Another thing about that "doctor's note" is that it doesn't talk about family history. We know that Trump's father had Alzheimer's, which has a genetic component. Any competent doctor would have mentioned that and brought up whether or not the genetic element (which can be tested for) is present. And the variety of Alzheimer's involved tends to show up between 60 and 80. Trump is smack in the middle of the highest risk period, given his family history.
Also, the doctor is listed as a gastrointestinal specialist who Trump had been seeing (allegedly) for 35 years, and apparently nothing was wrong with Trump. Why you would see a gastrointestinal specialist for 35 years for no apparent reason is beyond me.

Mexican foreign minister on Trump
.
Is it just me, or is the interviewer being a serious jackass in this interview? He tries to lecture her on being "harsh" on Trump. He seems aghast at Trump being compared to Mussolini by her boss. He says she "may have heard" about Trump's wall. Jeez man. She's foreign minister for a major country. Could you show a touch of respect?

Colon cancer in relatives is often the reason for such screening. But it doesn't have to be an extensive family history.

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."They're saying that if Clinton gets elected, Obama will release evidence to get her indicted before she's taken office, preventing her from assuming the presidency. Since Kaine will still not technically have assumed the office of vice-president, there'll be no-one next in line after Clinton, which (supposedly) gives Obama an excuse to declare a state of emergency and assume a third term in the absence of a legal successor.
I gotta say, I kinda dig this image of Obama as a Francis Urquhart-esque mastermind using Clinton as his Unwitting Pawn, but it doesn't really mesh that well with the general conservative criticism of him as a naive incompetent.
