Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, and apparently the tests would involve gauging one's stance on LGBT rights. Which is pretty rich for a guy running with a party that considers LGBT individuals second class citizens at best and subhumans at worst.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I'd like very much to administer that test to some of his supporters.

Isn't acting like a whiny little kid going against his whole "strongman" persona? Blaming the voters, especially before the election, is one of the worst comms mistakes you can make.
Granted, until the last few weeks Trump has had "Protection from Bad Publicity" in play so...
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. Is there any alt-right box left that Trump hasn't ticked?
Breitbart, the ever ethical home of quality journalism, decided that the best counter to polls they perceived to be biased against Trump was an "unbiased" poll of their own
. Hillary beat Trump anyway.
Brierbart is the journalistic version of that kid who would shout penis at the top of his lungs for the cheap laugh then get all pissy when he got in trouble.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Vladimir Putin Has Already Won Your Election
, apparently.
Giuliani: No 'successful radical Islamic terrorist attacks' in U.S. before Obama's presidency
...I'm confused. Wasn't he Mayor of New York City on 9/11?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Giuliani is a guy I used to respect. Not anymore; guy's gone off the deep end.
On a somewhat related note, on Jimmy Fallon a few nights ago he showed a ridiculous clip of Trump telling one of his rallies something to the effect of, "Even if you hate me, even if you can't stand me, you're going to vote for me." Yeah, that logic might hold up if you had good policies to offset your obnoxiousness, but you don't.

So in more "Trump does Open Mouth, Insert Foot" news, he's now advocating for an "ideological test" for new immigrants
, ostensibly to weed out extremists. One bit, though, caught my eye.
Those excluded would be people who did not believe in the US Constitution, support bigotry and hatred, believe Shariah law is more important than US law, or would not "flourish in our country".
So, much like the current immigration test - how many current US citizens would actually be able to pass it? Because the portion regarding "bigotry and hatred" coupled with religious law > US law could just as easily apply to a number of hyper-conservative Christian sects.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
