Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Honestly, this and all of the other crap that Trump and his supporters have been pulling lately makes Donald seem seem less like an actual person and more like a villainous cartoon caricature. Just give him a thin mustache long enough for him to give it a good twirl and you're set.
"Well, if they got tied to a railroad, they have no one to blame but themselves. They got nobody to blame if they got tied to a railroad track, because it's their fault. It's their fault if they got tied to a railroad, nobody else's.
If I get into office, I'll make sure they don't get tied to railroads, you can bet on that. Obama isn't doing anything about it, but I'll make sure they don't get tied to railroads. No women will be tied to railroads while I'm in office.
If they get tied to railroads, you can blame the Mexicans. It's their fault, and I'm gonna do something about it. I'll do something about those Mexicans who tie women to railroads. I'll do something about it, and that's called foreign policy."

Curses; ninja'ed again!
But eh, what the heck, I'll post it anyways:
"Women, you know, women, I love women. In fact, I love women so much that I would be willing to do anything for them, yes, yes, I would. Of course, that also means that I'd expect, yes, I would expect them to do the same for me; I would expect them to, yes I would. And if they don't, well, I don't like to say this, I really don't, but sometimes, you just gotta' teach 'em a lesson, you know what I"m talkin' about? So I figure, just tie 'em to a damn railroad track for about a hour or so; just tie 'em down, that should teach 'em a thing or two. And if it doesn't, well, if it doesn't, then just leave 'em there. They had their chance; they had their chance, you know what I'm sayin'? Now if you all don't mind, I gotta' work on my evil laugh and give my mustache a good twirl, if you'll excuse me please..."

538 on that new website which claims to "unskew" all the polls' bias against Trump: It's basically fan fiction
. At least it doesn't yet have Trump getting 66% of the vote.
A few pages ago, but discussing the Baltimore PD again, engaging in racial profiling while a Do J official is on a ride along just goes into Too Dumb to Live territory.
Or they just figure they're untouchable even if they do engage in blatant discrimination right in front of them, which is also likely, a way of showing off for the outsider and daring them to do something about it.
My thought is that the Department of Justice should have a massive agency for collecting complaints on local police forces. Still probably wouldn't be able to handle them all, but they could bring enough of them to justice to put the fear of god into the rest. Ironically what the police think they're trying to do.
On a slightly more optimistic note, progress is being made in the Ferguson PD
.
And I'm increasingly thinking that federal-level standards for training might be a good idea.
RE: Trump saying Obama "founded ISIS"
Here's the CNN article on it
, and the relevant excerpt.
Trump objected.
"No, I meant he's the founder of ISIS," Trump said. "I do. He was the most valuable player. I give him the most valuable player award. I give her, too, by the way, Hillary Clinton."
Hewitt pushed back again, saying that Obama is "not sympathetic" to ISIS and "hates" and is "trying to kill them."
"I don't care," Trump said, according to a show transcript. "He was the founder. His, the way he got out of Iraq was that that was the founding of ISIS, okay?"
Edit: No criticism of Obama And as some delicious hypocrisy to go on the lie-filled cake, in 2007 he said, in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, that the US should just "Declare victory and leave".

POLICE TRAINER: So, do you want to protect and serve?
NEW CADET: Yup!
POLICE TRAINER: Do you think you've got what it takes to become a fully fledged member of the force?
NEW CADET: Yup!
POLICE TRAINER: Are you a racist?
NEW CADET: Yup! ...Hey, wait a second—
POLICE TRAINER: Right; here's your severance pay. So long kid.
NEW CADET: ...Dagnabbit.
Or at least that's how it should happen.

??? What the hell? What is wrong with Trump's thought process here? For one, if that 2007 date is what he said, that was on Bush, not Obama. But aside from that, he's sounding increasingly like a little kid who has no idea what's actually going on, but thinks he needs to pretend he does.
I am curious about what answer you'd get if you asked Trump what ISIS actually is, beyond the basic description of a terrorist organization.

]Would it be an improvement if he somehow mentioned Sterling Archer?
iron, did you mean W regarding that quote?
The damned queen and the relentless knight.http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/10/media/roger-ailes-fox-news/
Just about every day brings new allegations about the behavior of ousted Fox News boss Roger Ailes. Taken together, the claims — which Ailes has denied — portray an executive who abused his power by harassing female employees and paying confidants to dig up dirt on his opponents.
Now Ailes is gone, and some of his longtime associates are also on the way out.

I'd say this portion from the same article is a tad more noteworthy... here's the Politico article it's citing
.
Politico on Wednesday quoted a source who recalled Ailes saying, "I know where" Sherman lives, "and I'm gonna send people to beat the shit out of him."
The source also said they were told by another person that if the full scope of Ailes' campaign against Sherman ever came out, "multiple people at Fox would go to jail."
Oh, and in a shining example of cronyism, apparently Ailes had hired a friend as a "consultant" who was paid $10,000/month for just submitting an invoice to Fox every month.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Compare the many other presidential candidates who lost, but continued to serve. Whether you agreed with them or not, many of them at least had principles they actually believed in and continued to work for. I honestly wonder how far back you have to go to find a candidate who didn't come out of politics nor (re)entered it after losing.

No, he wasn't even that smart. He just gets names mixed up, and thinks that because people have vaguely similar names, they're the same person. And he's so stubborn and opinionated that nobody can tell him he's flat-out wrong. Like I said, What An Idiot.
He's probably a Trump supporter. But I repeat myself...
