Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Oh God! Natural light!Wait, Stein thinks that Wi Fi is dangerous to people?
May I ask how the hell she came to that conclusion?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Something about concentrated EM radiation causing cancer or damaging nervous system development. New-age pseudoscientific conspiracy theories.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There are some people who are sensitive to Wi Fi signals, and I wouldn't doubt if there is some sort of allergy to Wi Fi signals, but I would rather figure out the issue rather than just kneejerk like Stein seems to be doing.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Just got a survey call for NY, and it sounded largely impartial... until they reached the Congressional race between John Katko and Colleen Deacon. When I indicated leaning towards Deacon (after being 'unsure"), the questions became overtly biased. "Colleen Deacon supports Obamacare and a massive hike to the minimum wage, crippling small businesses", "She supports the Iran nuclear deal and said she 'doesn't know the answer' when it comes to ISIS", etc.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Western NC is getting bombarded with calls from a supposed "veteran support group" that does shit like that. They ask if you have a veteran in your family, lead you on for a bit, then drop the "Hillary Clinton sold our soldiers lives to Terrorists and Donald Trump will restore our sovereignty and cleanse the corrupted elements of society."

The "wi-fi sensitive" people tend to overlook something really, really obvious. The whole planet is constantly bombarded with pretty much the entire EM spectrum from the Sun, with the occasional smaller leakage from Jupiter and Saturn. Yes, the magnetic field pushes quite a lot of it away, but not all of it, and the magnetic field itself interacts with the wi-fi signal, we just know how to compensate for it.
Sadly, I can predict the counterargument to that - "Yeah, it occurs naturally, but so does sunlight - you don't spend 10 hours a day just exposing yourself to it without precautions!"
Without a lampshade hanging on them? Alternatively, "You wouldn't want to spend 10 hours in a tanning bed".

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?""I totally agree, why just last night at our Black pride meeting we were talking about eliminating all the...I've said too much -dial tone"
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/trump-obama-clinton-founded-isis-226893
At a rally in Sunrise, Florida, Trump once again attacked the foreign policy of Obama and Clinton, saying their policies resulted in the creation of ISIL.
“ISIS is honoring President Obama,” Trump said. “He is the founder of ISIS. He is the founder of ISIS, OK? He’s the founder. He founded ISIS. And I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton.”
His comments Wednesday were not the first time he connected Obama to ISIS. In June, he tweeted an article from Breitbart that said, “The Obama administration was actively supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq, the terrorist group that became the Islamic State."
