Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Wasn't Shrkeli under investigation for something else as well? Or did he get away with that. He clearly has a rather poor moral compass (even Trump thinks he's worthless) so he's probably doing a lot of illegal things.

Shkreli was the guy who jacked up the price on some drug 5000%, just because he could. His reasoning was equating it to an Alfa Romeo, currently being sold at bicycle prices, increased to Toyota prices. (The problem with that logic is: people don't need an Alfa Romeo to live. They do need prescription medication.)
He also has the most punchable face I've ever seen in my life.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.
He's also a shitty League of Legends player.
Ethnically Welsh person right here. You're both right. You're both wrong.
The big issue was immigration - something both the poverty-stricken, disenfranchised, anti-establishment working class Welsh OAPs and the wealthy, English OAPs have in common. The other thing they have in common is that they both tend to live in the least immigration-affected areas of Wales while being the most anti-immigration voters.
So, it definitely isn't a good example of how ethnicity can sway the vote. Wales would be a better example of how both Bernie supporters and Trump supporters became so powerful at the same time in this election cycle.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Should be pointed out that the media mischaracterized it as an AIDS drug when really it's for treating toxoplasmosis, which is usually transmitted from cat-to-human and localizes to the brain but can become dangerous if present in a person with AIDS since their immune system can't keep it at bay. Doesn't justify what he's doing anyway, but it's not quite the same thing.
This site goes about it in more detail

There are a few moderate republicans left, and some of them have denounced Trump. The article I linked a few pages back has one of my state's senators, Susan Collins, publicly cut all support for Trump. My home state of Maine tends to breed moderates and centrists only nominally aligned to parties, and Collins is one of, if not the most moderate republicans left in Congress.
I think so, Australia currently has the highest at 17.70 Australian dollars, but the Australian dollar is a very weak currency and thus after conversion it's worth less. Still the push to raise the minimum wage is one that's occurring across the world, the US can in this instance be the progressive beacon that it so often claims to be.

I know of leavers and remainers on both sides of any ethnic, linguistic, class or political divide you could think of. Post-industrial regions with high unemployment tend to blame immigration, and Wales is pretty high on that, but the rural parts of Wales also voted Leave for the most part, so it wasn't just that.
Back to 'Merica, didn't see this mentioned: Trump hints at assassination of Hillary Clinton by gun rights supporters
The volatile Republican nominee was speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, about the next president’s power to appoint supreme court justices. “Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the second amendment,” said Trump, eliciting boos from the crowd.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the second amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”

I already mentioned it a few pages back.
A $15/hour minimum wage may seem like a lot, but we have one of the richest economies in the world. Relative to costs of living, it's still too small by about 50% to be a functional living wage, but it's a start.

O.K, is anybody else curious about the behind the scenes for his campaign? It's got to be worth a laugh. Depends on your sense of humor on what kind of laugh.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. The words "actively suicidal" have been bandied about by Trump campaign insiders. He won't take advice and won't spend any time or energy on organization.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If any GOP congressman doesn't rescind their endorsement after Trump basically said it was okay for Hillary to be assassinated, then the Democrats need to blast them from the rooftops from now until forever until they get voted out of office
Fuck me why are 40% of this country so goddamn stupid and racist?
New Survey coming this weekend! They will claim (and are claiming) that Trump's words are being twisted and the statement was just open ended enough to claim plausible deniability.
Meanwhile, on Twitter:
There's been a few more than that immoral asshole on the "Clinton has Parkinson's" paranoia bandwagon, based on pictures of a Secret Service guy escorting Hilary and seemingly carrying a Diazepam pen, and some out of context gifs or Hilary having funny faces.

In apropos of nothing, remember Robert marrow? The guy who became chairman of the Republican Party of Travis County in Austin, Texas? The guy who claimed to be "Trump on steroids"? The guy who claimed that Hilary Clinton was an "angry bull dyke" and that Rick Perry was "a raging bisexual adulterer"? The guy who claimed that that Lyndon B. Johnson, with the help of the CIA, was involved in the assassination of JFK? The guy who co-authored a certain "The Clintons' War on Women"? The guy who asked Chelsea Clinton at a book signing if she was actually the daughter of Webster Hubbell, Bill Clinton's Associate Attorney General, and if Bill "also targeted teenage girls, except for sexual reasons?". (The hell is that sentence supposed to mean?)
Found his Wikipedia page and their picture has him wearing a jester's hat. As I said, in apropos of nothing but sometimes these sort of things just have to be shared. Like the name "Dragon God of Sorcery'.
