The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

[up] Good job truncating the quote. "It's all a monstrous, demented gag" is too iconic to work for the game.

Nah, I'm Canadian. We got not horse in this race. Too busy watching our prime minister shirtlessly photobombing marrying couples.

[up][up][up][up]Gotta be Joker. Trump is simply not eloquent enough to use a double negative in a grammatically correct syntax.

[up][up]He's been doing surprisingly well IMHO. I mean, everyone's got issues (it's politics), but I gotta say that IMHO he's doing a lot to reduce people's cynism towards government, which had peaked at last election.

Not that I can speak to everyone, and again, the guy's not perfect, but he's been showing a general willingness to stick to his word and not in a cynical manner? If that makes sense.

But enough derails.

[up]I'm gonna expand the game to rules BY or ABOUT Trump Vs BY or ABOUT the Joker. Easier to make a more varied collections.

Sounds like another rendition of the Trump or Mussolini game that I think I linked to a while back.

True, saw that. But lets face it, Trump vs actual cartoons is somehow a better match up.

I leave it to you if it's more depressing or less depressing.

I wonder if any quotes from Batman: The Animated Series's Joker could work here.

So basically we should get Alice Cooper and Mark Hammill to run together, right?

I'm sort of glad the Joker comparison is getting made. If only because I saw people making Lex Luthor jokes before and thought that was really unfair. To Luthor that is.

Not even Bv S Luthor is as bad as Trump.

Trump being eviller than Lex...I actually am almost inclined to agree, but actually to be fair Trump has yet to actually murder anybody yet to my knowledge. He does, however, make Lex Luthor seem very Affably Evil by comparison. Though, to be fair, he makes most people look Affably Evil by comparison.

[up][up]Well, the both are rather cartoony...nah, just kidding. That Luthor is, at the very least, entertaining in how much of a Warner Bros cartoon he is. He's so high-energy and loud, it's hilarious!

That...guy ain't funny. At least in a way that I can be comfortable with.

I have met people who were even more petty than Trump, but they were receiving special education and didn't promoting a political ideology that shared at least 2/3rds of Fascism's features.

Nah, Luthor is actually a Superman inspired hero right now. Trump took his spot as the businessman supervillain.

Former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling plans to run for U.S. President in 2024.

Keep in mind that this is a guy who blamed his lack of nomination into the MLB Hall of Fame on "liberal bias" (he was pretty successful for a few years, but would not be considered "great"), is responsible for the financial disaster behind the scenes of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and has compared Muslims to Nazis online.

So, it's good to know we have a potential Trump 2.0 to look forward to.

[up] Honestly if the GOP wants to continue its spiral towards irrelevance in 2020 and beyond, that's for the best. Presuming of course they don't win. Which shouldn't happen without a clusterfuck dividing the left and center from one another.

I don't think the current GOP can handle losing five straight elections in a row. If they lose 2024 the more violent parts of their base will probably start a full scale revolt.

[up]I doubt that this MLB guy will seriously be the nominee. Trump was a very odd fluke.
