Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Casinos are expensive to maintain. Utilities like electricity are through the roof. Land, workers, food and drinks cost money too.
Non Indicative UsernameI'm not surprised that Utah is looking to flip. Previous Republican campaigns have been able to at least hold a fig leaf to family values, particularly if they added in a little hate for teh gayz. Trump can neither pretend to family values, nor credibly pretend to even think about gay people or give a shit about transgender people.
I am surprised that we don't see "family values" Republicans come out against Trump outside of Utah, though. Nobody's going to care about hypocrisy or a sex scandal with minor boys in a politician running on a family values platform, but there's a difference between hypocrisy and refusing to blow the usual dog whistles.
Well, I certainly can't see them supporting the Democrats, who have an unabashedly pro-LGBTQ platform. Where does that leave them?
Oh God! Natural light!Yes, the Constitution Party is still around, but they do even worse than either the Libertarians or the Greens. At least people talk about Gary Johnson of the Libertarians and Jill Stein of the Greens, and both the Libertarians and the Greens have official colors, namely yellow and green, in case their candidates actually end up on an electoral college map. The current presidential candidate, Darrell Castle, wishes he was Gary Johnson.

Oh God! Natural light!Yes, they are also Pro-Gun, Pro-Life, and Pro-Immigration Control. In other words, anyone still in the Constitution Party are the people who believe Donald Trump doesn't go far enough.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyThe Reform Party still exists and wishes it was as popular as the Constitution Party. They don't even have a candidate for president this election.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyAdric, it's really just Gary Johnson of the Libertarians, Jill Stein of the Greens, and Darrell Castle of the Constitution Party... At least, other than Clinton and Trump, of course.
