Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The US military has a plan on the shelf for if the Girl Scouts attempted a coup.
(Otherwise, the entries in Crazy-Prepared and Girl Scouts Are Evil need to be amended.)

The damned queen and the relentless knight. The CDC — which is an entirely civilian agency — has a plan for a hypothetical Zombie Apocalypse.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Yeah as much as I believe Trump is a traitor and a Russian agent at this point he's not a Traitor with a capital T.
And we can't go shifting the legal definitions of treachery just for him. Nor can we make speaking an act of treachery. Now if we had evidence of some private correspondence between Trump and GRU then we'd have something to go on.
Oh really when?I wouldn't even go so far as assume he's a "Russian Agent". "Useful Idiot" may be more appropriate.
Putin is smart and opportunistic, or as I've heard someone say, "Trump with brains". He's proven an apt manipulator of public opinion in his own country and his quest to "make the bear strong again" includes a willingness to give the US a black eye where it can.

At best, Trump is a Russian plant that the Russian's didn't even know was being a plant but are still quite happy with Mr.Trump anyway. At worst, he's an idjit who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, which just happens to be rather convenient for the still quite happy Russians.

New Survey coming this weekend!I don't know if there is a way to nullify a huge chunk of existing debts without massive economical repercussions for lenders.
Doubtful. The right has more crazy, self-destructive idiots who think America's problems should be solved by guns than the left does.
Oh sweet Jesus, he's actually trying to commit treason now isn't he?
>.< Oh for f*ck's sake. That has to disqualify him for Presidency, doesn't it?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yep, there is video of Trump defending the murders of Russian journalists because "he leads"
.
This. Fucking. Election.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

Sigh. Let me underscore my revulsion and hatred of Trump since I am about to basically defend him.
The Constitution strictly limits the definition of treason as waging war on the US or giving aid and comfort to enemies (and that charges must be backed by at least two witnesses). Russia, in legal terms, is not currently an enemy (though they are seriously pushing it lately). Nor can you charge someone with treason just for saying something, you have to be actually doing something. In the era it was written you could be charged with treason just for saying something and even before they added the bill of rights they wanted to protect the right to say things that were against the government.
Additionally, there is no way to kick a candidate off an election ballot once on it. (You can pressure them very hard to withdraw but fat chance of that happening with Trump.)
