Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So far, the DNC seems shaping up be just what I needed, and what I think just about everyone needs; a strong message of hope.
To be honest, that message of hope was how I feeling during the RNC. Here's hoping this doesn't become the DNC's message of hope for good measure.

Yeah they had a rabbi talking about God for a bit before the recess was gavelled and declared.
Some people don't like religon and politics being mixed, especially when it's so common it tends to make it seem like people who aren't of faith aren't welcome or true Americans (one nation under God and all that).

it is, as Shinra pointed out, just in the culture. The US is much religious relative to other Western countries, so politicians bring up religion more often. It would be awkward and unusual in a European or Canadian context, but that's just how she rolls. It will likely fade as religiosity decreases.
As it stands, atheists are the least-trusted religious group in the US, though.

I do agree that religion should be kept away from politics (hell, that's in our friggin' constitution), but I don't see religion fading as a good thing. Religion becoming more common isn't necessarily a good thing either. It's personal, so people shouldn't pressure others to gain or drop their beliefs.
There's a lot of them saying their voices aren't being heard. One lady cited Clinton not coming out against the TPP, despite the fact that she has, and that it was insulting that Sanders was the last to speak. She's not exactly up on her Clinton news, and apparently doesn't think being the finale is a good thing. In any case, a lot of these people clearly dislike Clinton FAR more than they trust Sanders, and are doing mental backflips.
Apparently the delegates out of Southern Calafornia were the ones most organised in protest Clinton and being pains in the arse.
Oh and apparently Sanders "we must make sure that the TPP isn't not passed in the lame duck session" bit wasn't in the script.

It's sadness but I'm not sure what at, it may well be at Sanders losing.
And Sanders just finished "I am proud to stand with her tonight"
