Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Again, the DNC and RNC are supposed to represent the party as a whole and be the steering committee for platform and strategy. Think of it more like office politics where obstinately you're all working torward the same thing, but Alice is more interested in her promotion than anything else, Boss Bob is giving people he likes special perks if they'll back his agenda and Carol just wants stuff to get done and fights with the management over the fact she's not getting enough funding while Alice and Bob complain that she's disruptive..
(This Alice and Bob example not meant to correlate with actual people in this case.)

Internal party politics are a thing. Underhanded politics are a thing. If you're too idealistic to see where that can lead you and to know what you can do to handle them while keeping on to most of your ideals, you are not going to last long.
I expect better of my fellow millenials.
What does it change if it were dishonest to a level beyond what it currently is? If it were any other candidate, would the same angle of attack have been used?

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotIf they're gonna throw the election to Trump over that sorta bullshit then they're not the sort of people we want to pander to in the first place. Just like Trump's supporters they're a demographic to be ignored or crushed.
Forgive me if that sounds undemocratic but we can't afford to have those sort of idiots holding power.
Not when all of NATO and the very livelihood of the West itself is hanging in the balance.
Oh really when?
As Moore said, the problem isn't young voters not voting for Clinton. It's young voters not dragging all of their friends along with them to vote, which is what happened with Obama and with Sanders during the primaries and during the 2008 general election.

All I'm trying to do is respond to the "Isn't that what they were supposed to be doing" question.
And lets be clear, I have not been an active voter in the past but I plan to vote for Hillary even though I don't particularly like her because I'm not blind to the alternative.

Also, stop painting all Sanders supporters as Bernie or Bust types because that's been debunked multiple times; the *majority* will be switching their votes to Clinton. But it does still send a message to the Dems as a whole that there is a sizable base that wants more leftist policies and are have misgivings about the establishment and they ignore that at their peril because if they're not dumb, they'll look at what the Tea Party did to the GOP and be thinking "how do we not have that happen to us?" Maybe not this election cycle, but 2, 4, or even 10, 15 years down the line.

And a strong NATO backed up by the US is the best way to prevent WW3 starting in the Baltics. If the US pulls out and the Russians get ambitious, the worse case scenario is someone in London, Paris or Moscow panicking and nuking something.
So, apparently there are tens of thousands of anti-Clinton supporters massing for the convention. And the resignation of DWS has only emboldened them. Some of them are Green Party quacks and others are convinced that Sanders truly won the primary. I guess the weed protestors are ok though.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. This one's got me more worried. http://usuncut.com/politics/wikileaks-could-ruin-hillary-clinton/
So, sort of off topic, but cousin went on a date tonight, and while it went well, he basically said something along the lines
"You know...I know it's supposed to be forbidden and all, but, I will discuss religion on a first date or with someone I just met 10000x before I'll even drop a HINT of politics in this environment."
And you know what? I kind of agree with him. I don't even like discussing politics with people whom I've known for decades.
New Survey coming this weekend! The only person who I like discussing politics in person is my mom. Despite her being a person who fully believes Obama is foreign born, she does end up listening to me if the subject is ever brought up, despite my lack of elegance when it comes to debating.
There was also one customer at my work who I brought it up with once, he was chill about it, but I ended up debating a little bit longer than I should've.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Wouldn't be the first time wikileaks has over promised. Still I don't quite get their end game. "Bernie lost, we'll make sure trump gets in!" doesn't sound very progressive. Gotta admit the conspiracy theory that the Russian government is leaking all this info to them in an attempt to get Trump into power feels alot less tin foily then before.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? There has been a shooting at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida
Reports are that at least two people have been killed at the teen nightclub. Police have detained one suspect.
I'm so glad that this stuff happens about four hours away from me. First Orlando, and now this.
When will it stop?!
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"So, Trump apparently got a 6 point boost from the RNC and is ahead of Clinton, according to a CNN poll.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/25/politics/donald-trump-hillary-clinton-poll/index.html
Now, I wouldn't start panicking until after the DNC at least, we are still within the margin of error and its a long time until November. And Trump's demographic issues aren't going to vanish. But if Wikileaks and the Bernie or Bust crowd fuck up the DNC we might be in for a nasty ride.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

You don't think Millennials viewing the Democrats as untrustworthy is a problem? That's what this will lead to whether or not you feel it's justified.
