The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, Pence is almost as bad as Trump. A religious fanatic to the core, that one.

Well, apparently Assange says he's got a Smoking Gun that will "provide enough evidence" to see Hillary Clinton arrested.

If this had been a month or two ago, I might be skeptically optimistic, as it'd pave the way for a Sanders nomination - but as things stand now, I'm deeply worried.

Please. If they had a smoking gun they would've used it months ago.

No, that would have lead to the Bern getting the nomination.

They release it right after the DNC and it's just over, Trump wins and the world ends.

...Are we allowed to wish horrible diseases and death on people (even Trump)? I feel like that's not a think that's supposed to happen here.

RE Assange: Also worth noting is that the interview they're referring to happened several weeks ago.

Eh, Trump's gotten close to that threshold for me - I tend to reserve that level of vitriol for people that really deserve it, and his advocating for war crimes definitely put him up near Hitler-levels for me.

Not if Trump had his way with it, we wouldn't!

Assange is lucky that the US and the Western world hold the Vienna convention in high regard.

@Pseudopartition: The article itself appears to be a repost, judging by one of the comments. Most likely, the latest leak is the one Assange's talking about in the article.

Is it worth the Major International Incident to have the Ecuadorian embassy stormed already?

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

[up][up][up]Exactly, the actual interview is from June: http://www.itv.com/news/update/2016-06-12/assange-on-peston-on-sunday-more-clinton-leaks-to-come/

If that's the leak he was talking about, I'm underwhelmed to say the least. Still, we've got about 4 months to go, that worries me.

Give him to the Swedes so he can face sexual assault charges, that should tie him up for at least a year.

After he edited out the guys with the RP Gs and A Ks from the incident where an Apache killed some Reuters reporters, integrity is what Assange doesn't have, he will do whatever he can to tarnish the US.

To what end though? Is he an anarchist, or just full of himself?

Question: Why do Trump supporters blame immigration for economic problems, when it's pretty obvious that it's people like Trump and the Republicans who are the problem? There's a growing gap between rich and poor, and those same rich people seem to think that we should work for nothing in order to finance their huge paychecks, completely ignorant of the problems that will cause down the line.

Not to mention countries with low birthrates should really be encouraging immigration; it's not like younger native citizens can support the entire weight of the economy as older generations retire. I mean I don't want to reduce all of it to "racism and xenophobia" because I'd like to think more of humanity; but it's getting really difficult not to.

Because Trump's supporters are genuine Neo Nazis. It's that simple.

Many supporters of candidates(or games, or movies, or books, etc.) sometimes ignore facts. It's fairly simple in that regard. Or there's extreme bias.

@LSBK; No. That's not allowed. It' s inappropriate and not a good thing to discuss.

Its still likely that Trump will lose. No reason to panic barring a major Clinton scandal, or a fuck up at the convention. Not yet anyway.
