Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Hardcorefakes: Yeah I've found myself agreeing with him more than I'd like. However character matters, and Trumps is that of a manipulative sociopathic racist. I could never vote for a man like that. Plus he talks a tough game to the Chinese and yet he wants to withdraw form Japan and South Korea, effectively handing them Asia on a silver platter.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.![]()

"Converted" into what? All I said was that I agree with some of his points.
Agreeing with certain points doesn't mean full force support for the guy. I agree with a lot of Clinton's positions too, doesn't mean I support her either. I agree with, at best, a handful of his points (same with Clinton really).
I don't have to have full support for either candidate, I try to keep an open mind about everyone.

The thing with Trump is that he does 180s on positions within 24 hours of each other, and will claim that's the position he's always had. Politicians aren't the most honest person, but even by politician standards that's pretty dishonest.
Leviticus 19:34And for the record, I wasn't being entirely serious about the "converted" part (hence the quote marks). Just taking a shot at how debates tend to go these days.

It's not a racket if you're being paid to protect from others than yourself. It's a kind of Client State
relationship.
The American relationship with several nations around the world already verges on a vassal-liege relationship. Australia being a good example; they depend on the US to defend their maritime trade, and in return they fight in American wars just as they once did for the British. Trump seems intent on renegotiating those arrangements into something far less mutualistic however.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.I wonder what Bernie would say about that.
Edit: the stupid part is that they probably didn't even need to bother doing that. In doing so they're just undermining Hillary.
Edit 2: So after reading the article I don't think there's anything too damaging although Sanders supporters probably won't take it that way. I never heard about any of these plans being carried out so it could have just been idle talk. I do think the relevant people should be fired though.

Yeah, the issue here is clearly Wikileaks fault./s
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but this doesn't strike me as something the DNC is supposed to do.

And Sanders still lost fair and square, but convincing people of that just got a lot harder.
Oh we know that some elements of the DNC were biased. But it didn't really impact the primary. And undermining Clinton at this point in the race is the same thing as supporting Trump.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
