Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Bah, they'll be fine. I know I am.
Incidentally, Paul Ryan, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Ayn Rand are names that are terribly confusing to keep track of. Every time I write a post about them, I have to mentally double-check myself.
I don't know; if the way the comedy talk shows have been handling things is any clue, they'll treat the DNC like a snooze-fest and/or take every opportunity to rag on Clinton for her "robotic personality", completely missing the point that the Democrats are about weird concepts like "policy" and "governance".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Honestly I prefer to get political information in transcript form so I've never really noticed Hillary's lack of charisma. She seems to communicate intelligently and eloquently enough on paper, and with the nuance and technical know-how of governing that one should require in a potential world leader, something that often gets brushed under the rug in favor of lofty ideals when it comes to public debates.

My problem is that I have exactly zero investment in any of those people. It's not like I see them on the news enough to have any clue who they are or why I should care. All the big national names in Democratic politics have either declined or are not under consideration.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"And Murdoch is taking his place again, which is sort of like Darth Vader being fired so that Palpatine can have a direct go at it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"See, my impression is that Ailes is the key reason for Fox's pro-GOP bias. Apparently he was for a while a Republican strategist. Rupert Murdoch is just a standard greedy power-hungry plutocrat.

Perez's biggest issue is that people who aren't deeply tuned into the political scene don't know who he is.
People in Virginia know who Kaine is, and people in Iowa know who Vilsack is.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.![]()
Well, they've had no transgender bathroom attacks since the law was passed, so in that sense it is a success. Someone should sell them a rock to keep away bears.
Yeah, at first, from the article, I was getting the impression that Trump was saying that America's own record on civil liberties are bad, so we don't have the moral high ground, but he actually seems to be sympathizing with Erdogan and his methods.

I mean, the US probably should be 'buddies' with Iran. Unlike Saudi Arabia, they're actually a functioning country and not a banana republic oil feudalists. Iran at least has a chance of turning into not-a-theocracy at some point in the next century.
Iranian citizens also aren't funding Wahhabist madrassas around the world.
