Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Every time I think of that Clint Eastwood mess, I can't help but think of the (dreadful) Neil Diamond song "I am...I said."
I am I said/to know one there/and no one heard at all, not even the chair...
I'm really surprised that no one's really talking about the fact that Ben Carson essentially called Clinton a satanist. Nothing about that is true, and the guy he was referring to only mentions Lucifer once in his entire essay, but it's still so outlandish and yet I've heard so little about it.
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurThat's because it's silly. He said she has as a role model a person who acknowledged Lucifer.
Republicans acknowledge Lucifer all the time. John Boehner called Ted Cruz "Lucifer in the flesh" not long ago.
Also that. It's Ben Carson. We already know his deep, dark agenda.
The only way to protect your brains from the Zombie Carson is to stop listening to the things he says. In fact, that's true for everyone at the RNC.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.If Clinton was killed in such a disaster that might result in Clinton's replacement as the Dem nominee getting the presidency (or possibly she would elected posthumously and her VP would take over day one), as there would be a massive sympathy vote, however if Clinton lived then such a huge disaster would likely throw the election to Trump.
That assumes that the disaster didn't have such an impact that it killed/endangered large enough numbers of votes for one particular party that it helped push the elected one way or another.

I dunno if it was brought up here already, but I just found out that Trump's new manager, Paul Manafort
, before representing GOP people, was a lobbyist in the employ of the likes of Mobutu, Siad Barre, Jonas Savimbi, and Ferdinand Marcos.

: OK, so let's set aside the idea of assassination by an anti-Democrat, and instead consider the other possibilities (survives, or gets killed in an accident as one of the many casaulties of the global chaos). Does Trump sound like a plausible candidate for a US President who would overestimate the country's capabilities in the wake of such a global disaster and essentially break it in the course of "making America great again" in his own deluded way?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Getting killed by an accident would still result in a massive sympathy vote, but yes Trump is certainly the kind of person to ruin the US by trying to make it an all powerful controller of the world.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe only way I see Trump breaking your country is if he goes all "Civilization's Gandhi" on the world and declares war on everyone and their grandmother's cat.
If he actually won I imagine the democrats and moderate republicans will attempt to block him on his craziest ideas. The following four years would be terrible for a lot of people from minorities (for obvious reasons) to a lot of the middle-class people who votes for him (the global economy might take a hit due to the man pissing off a lot of powerful people everywhere), but will be salvageable.
Then, the Republican or Democrat who gets the WH in 2020 will have to think not about how to improve things but how to fix what the man broke.
Most of the world depends too much on the US stability to let it fall apart. Remember that the last time an empire fell the world had been in chaos for 50 years and there was someone else to pick up the pieces so the world wouldn't go to hell.
Edited to add: On the bright side, Donald Trump might replace Dan Quayle as the worst leader in the Civilization rankings.

Eh, ok, point retracted for inadequate vetting.
