Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@discussion of 538's predictions: Nate responded to that recently on This American Life and essentially they expected the republican side to be much like last time where every one of the idiots running would get a week at the top of the polls before being dragged down. That trump entered at #1 and never left is really unusual.
@minorities for trump: republicans generally manage to get 5% of blacks nationally. That they managed to find a black women voting for trump isn't all that surprising. Sad, granted, but not all that surprising.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?
Yeah. Barring disaster of some kind Trump can utilize, this election is Clinton's to lose.
He's alienated far too many, groups and individuals alike, inside and outside the Republican party, that he isn't likely to get the numbers he'd need unless voter turnout is Uber-crappy, which his very nomination should guarantee against.

This election does not bode well. While Hillary winning would be far better than Trump, I fear that people will only become more bitter if she does. I wish there was a third candidate I could vote for...
Leviticus 19:34I say we renegotiate these country lines. We'll take cali and some of the border states and you can have alberta.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? So Alaska's delegation apparently announced their delegates for the then-three candidates but all 28 were recorded for Trump. Similar thing happened for DC but because their primary happened after Cruz dropped out, their delegate votes for Casich and Cruz were protest and didn't technically count.
Edit: Alaska apparently falls under the same rule as DC.
Edit 2: Alaska claims they did away with that rule for their state convention. But the chairman has confirmed the vote as recorded.

I mean, among older voters yeah. But (![]()
), despite Trump's Internet troll-like demeanor, his share of the youth vote is abysmal. If Trump becomes President, I imagine it'll be like Brexit, where it happens in spite of youth voters, not because of them.

Somehow, I doubt that...
YOUTH VOTERS: You know what, we don't give a crap about Hilary, and Trump's probably gonna' lose no matter what we do. Let's vote for the Green Party because FUCK EVERYONE!
{Several months later, Trump wins the election because Hilary doesn't get enough votes, particularly from the youth voters.}
YOUTH VOTERS: ...We done fucked up.

To corroborate Alley Oop's point, on my time on the internet and even IRL a LOT of the casually racist and mysogynistic discourse I've seen has come from asian, latino and black men. Part of that is anecdotal of course, but I think that some people genuinely seem to forget that not all members of sexual and ethnic minorities are part of the social justice community or educated about these issues, and many of them might not have been as equally and as personally affected by social oppression, and as such just as liable to be influenced by negative social values and willing to buy into Trump's rhethoric . I've lost count of how much I've seen complaining about "dem SJW'S" done by people who aren't white.
