Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Look, people said he was never going to make it this far at all. This country just keeps disappointing us at every turn. At this point, a Trump win is hardly the impossible event people try to make it out to be. I mean, look at Brexit.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."![]()
True. Remember, I didn't say this would guarantee a Trump victory. I just said that he was going to have a field day with this tragedy. He's going to twist it until its just another arrow in his quiver.
I'm not kidding when I say that I hope to hell you're right.
God. Now a fourth officer's been killed.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."He's going to make himself look foolish again and make Hillary's following grow. Trump tried twisting Orlando into something to his advantage and only made himself look worse.
If there's one thing I know, it's that there's enough people out there who're gonna fight any way they can to ensure that Trump won't win.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? The only way Trump can win is if he convinces nearly every white person in America to vote for him. And throughout our history nothing has gotten men like him into power better than fear of "scary black man coming to kill you and take your womenfolk."
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. The issue with Trump is he's not smart enough to use such an arrow tactically. Sure, he'll use it to pander the crowds that come to his rallies, but will he be able to make it into an effective message to people outside his core base? He hasn't be able to appeal more widely so far, and keeps putting his digital foot in his digital mouth. And making rambling non-speeches where he gets distracted by bugs.

If he needs literally every white person to vote for him to win then he's going to majorly fail. First off, that kind of fearful racism you think exists doesn't exist as widely as you think it does. (Certainly not in this white person who thinks Trump's a fucking idiot Putin can run circles around.) The group he appeals to is quite narrow.

I shouldn't overly focus on the Trump aspect. But more pertinently, as it is, police officers feel animosity toward African Americans and this makes it worse. And as has been the case with previous incidents where officers were killed, police/media blame protesters/President Obama/etc. for causing the deaths by making an issue of police brutality.
Boy oh boy. If these idiots wanted a race war between blacks and the police, they've just lit the fire under one.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, I probably shouldn't focus too much on Trump right now either. Because this is going to make things monumentally harder for Black Lives Matter, as if they didn't have a tough enough time of it as it is. Who cares about the countless black people who are killed by cops - now a couple of black people have killed some cops! That's different!
So currently - eleven officers shot, four dead.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."So lets see 2 black guys killed by cops in 2 days and now 4 cops killed potentially by black guys... shit.
This has been boiling for a while but holy crap it is going to explode now, president trump is sounding likely now... he has pretty much helped fuel a race war with his antics and its only going to get worse.

Who would be the rioters in this scenario.
Even worst the shooting occurred just as they were gaining momentum, must feel very depressing being part of a movement that only gains steam every time a black guy gets shot. That is evidence on the side of it being a false flag attack. And frankly the BLM movement hasn't from my impression, had much of a tough time, aside from the obvious black folks getting shot thing. The news coverage of them is mostly positive, just about everyone thinks their cause is just, and the Democratic Party has bent over backwards to placate them.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Update from the Dallas PD.
The person of interest whose likeness they previously released has turned himself in. Another suspect is in custody. A suspicious package has been located, and the bomb squad is on it.

This has the potential to make everything so much worse. If the public reaction to this goes poorly, Trump starts getting a lot of support. The only way this is averted is if Obama executes the snipers personally.
That's right, boys. Mondo cool.
