Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Same train of logic that gives us Commie-Nazis. Black-and-White Insanity.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I can't believe people buy into this.
Mexico has nothing better to do with its air force than to bomb Trump rallies.

On empty crossroads, seek the eclipse -- for when Sol and Lua align, the lost shall find their way home.Sometimes it's remarkably empty-headed, too. An otherwise intelligent person could say that "Hillary is a Communist" in all seriousness. I pointed out that it's a poor sort of Communist who serves on the board of Wal-mart and "represented Wall street" as a senator from New York, and his justification was that Communists were oppressive.
"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."That stupid plane comment undermines one of his biggest talking points. If the Mexicans are sending war-planes at us, what is an expensive, time-consuming wall going to accomplish?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.@ desdendelle: What Mexican Air Force
?
I guess they imagine Mexico attacking them with their top-line force of....six F-5s?

Keep Rolling OnMexico made a point of having a shit military so that the US wouldn't send them fight in Cold War bullshit. It worked.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Yeah, there's no way that wall isn't compensating for something.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Are we sure that Trump isn't joking when he made the warplane comment? That sounds nuts even for him.
As for the "Liberal=Authoritarian" and "Conservative=Libertarian" idea: Which party is pro or anti-establishment depends on which party runs the establishment. Personally, as a rather pro-state conservative, it annoys me. I like the state, I simply wish for it to do its job rather than other things (from a self-deprecating perspective: "I like the government when it does what I want it to").
But, to sum it up, Ayn Rand and Anarcho-Capitalist influences are getting thrown in with the rest of the right and are gaining more traction. These ideologies essentially go the opposite direction of traditional anarchism and liberalism. The way they see it, public property, wealth redistribution, and taxation are theft legitimized and carried out by the establishment. Therefore, the solution is to limit the power of the establishment in order to secure a more individualist future.
