Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Heh, woke up to conservative radio hosts blaring "Dems voted against Zika measures, proving they don't care about minorities and the poor."
It's a small win all around for them. They aren't keen on a vaccine anyway in the same vein as the HPV vaccine, but if it passed they would get their bullshit additions. Since it didn't (and they knew it likely wouldn't) they get a juicy propaganda piece.
I will never understand the hateboner they have for the clean water/superfund acts. People around me living in communities that have been devastated by industrial pollution and chemical leaks are going around marching with teabaggers and rambling on about wanting it struck down. o_O

Yeah, but this is very petty. Like, Captain Planet villain level of petty.

Oh they've being rational alright, it's just that, facing will radically changing their policies to resolve an existential demographic and forcing a political crisis (by obstructing no matter what) that could potentially be the end of democracy in America, the GOP has chosen the latter. I would have hoped that he rise of Trump would have disagree them from that path, but that is seemingly not the case.

Normally I would commend someone for standing up for what they believe in, but the Republicans have slid into Black-and-White Insanity where they have absolutely no idea what black or white even are. They have no coherent policies, plans, ideologies beyond "Our constituents are the companies that bribe us." They're perfectly willing to destroy the US so that they can continue to get their precious bribes. It's even more pathetic when the bribes are absurdly tiny. Like that one guy the NRA bought for a couple hundred dollars. When they're attempting to block something 90% of the country want, they are actively working against the people.
It doesn't help that they keep trying to pull the "it's for your own good" when it most certainly isn't.
I genuinely don't understand how these people function because the cognitive dissonance must be massive.

Some more local flavor for a change of pace.
For one's definition of "local", anyway.
I wish it was just bribe money motivating the GOP. But when I see provisions added to the Zika bill like "Allow the flying of the Confederate flag in cemetaries" or "Cut funding to women's contraceptives", these do not strike me as corporate interests. The GOP didn't do that in order to rake in some sweet, sweet bribe money from the Screw Women And Minorities Corporation.
There is hate festering in our political system, lurking behind a mask of greed. The GOP wants you to believe they're just paid shills. It's a pleasant alternative. Whether it's "just a joke" or "political corruption" or "no one would really believe that", hate has a wide variety of masks it wears to prey on skepticism.
Greatest trick the devil ever pulled, and all that.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.A leading Trump subreddit is in the middle of infighting
over infiltration by white supremacists.
I'm surprised there aren't screenshots in the article claiming that the white supremacists in question are "social justice warriors" false flags. However, this would probably warrant a "This is what Trump supporters/white supremacists/(wannabe) channers actually believe" disclaimer.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotWhere do people in the US get this idea that Liberals are authoritarian and Conservatives are anarchists?!?!
