Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That sounds very bullshit, since Obama is quite wealthy and could just loan them money to go use until they get a job.
Oh, and on Obama and racism, I remember it also used to be a thing (and probably still is) that Michelle Obama is a black nationalist or something because she wrote some stuff in college or something stupid.
Again, most likely nothing of substance, but it was a thing. Anyone know the narrative on that?

We talking about this story, I believe
.
Yeah. See, the fact that people are imagining shit like that and trying to build it into baggage is a sign of just how unspeakably clean Obama was as a candidate. He was nearly impossible to attack without tapping into racism and pissing off everyone not in the Angry White demographic.
Any bets on whether McCain will endorse Clinton?

Mc Cain would might as well start moving out of his office the day after, if he endorsed Clinton.
Not sure I'd go that far. He's known to be an Old Republican, despite being an Arizona Senator, and it hasn't hurt him thus far.
The thing with Hillary is that she's been the GOP's arch-enemy for some time now. More over, if you're a Republican politician, Trump could be your future boss. This means that, if you're a Republican, the incentives are stacked really highly against you if you want to support Hillary. If Hillary wins, the GOP will punish you for it, and you'll be known as a traitor who let Hillary win (you'll naturally lose a lot of voters). If Trump wins...even worse, because in addition to that all your sacrifices are for nothing and you've betrayed the most powerful man on Earth.
The best bet for a moderate Republican candidate would be to put on their best stepford smile and hope privately that Hillary wins. If Hillary wins-that's all good. She wasn't expecting your help in the first place anyways and nobody will think you're some kind of Benedict Arnold. If Trump wins...that's less good, but at least you're in the party's good graces.

Leviticus 19:34The idea of a vindictive Trump should scare anyone. Why the media isn't scrambling to discredit him 24/7 instead of the horse race narrative for ratings, I'll never understand.
The man's made no secret that he despises the "Dishonest media" and you don't think with a puppet AG he wouldn't order him to pull out some obscure laws to start prosecutions?
New Survey coming this weekend!Speaking of Trump, he briefly paused during a speech to point out that a plane flying above "could be Mexicans looking to attack"
.
He might be joking? I don't know.
So we have:
A) A thug governor of one of the most crooked states in the nation, who is under investigation for closing a bridge for political reasons.
B) A maniac who wants a moon base 51st state, and is responsible for the destruction of Congress as a functional organ of government.
And many people still hold resentment to the 2008 financial crash. That debacle ruined a lot of people's lives, that many haven't recovered from.
People in general across the globe think Wall Street and its international counterparts are too big, too out of control, and too dangerous to be allowed to exist. And Wall Street is the most obvious example of blatant economic inequality.
I read that and this soundtrack came to mind:
It's being reported that the bill to fund the creation of a zika vaccine has failed after republicans amended it to include bullshit like cuts the the clean water act, contraception restrictions, and the re-flying of confederate flags at military monuments.

ALL of the VP candidates/prospects past and present have skeletons/baggage. Obama not having any baggage not tied to people being racist, is the exception, not the rule. Democrats got insanely fucking lucky with his nomination: charismatic, extremely intelligent, graduated from Harvard Law with Honors, black, quick-witted, fast learner for what he didn't know, had a campaign ground game that was almost decades ahead of its time, was part of the "establishment", AND on top of that, no matter how dig you deep, the man quite literally has no skeletons in his closet.
If he were a fictional character, I'd be rolling my eyes constantly.
New Survey coming this weekend!
