There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Rumor: Clarence Thomas considering retirement after the general election.
His wife, Ginni Thomas, calls fake on this rumor.
Given the horrible cost in human lives and, y'know, the genocide going on in more than one front, it's hard for me to see 'Mad' Jack as much more than a battle hungry nutjob. Badass, yeah, but a guy openly pining for the continuation of World War 2 is....not exactly something admirable.
Also, on the Jeb Bush front...as someone who's worked in child welfare law in Florida, I have a great deal of loathing for him. He absolutely destroyed that system and a lot of the problems it faces that screw over kids every day are at his doorstep.
“Ding dong the witch is dead” wrote Michael Caputo, a Trump communications aide who was said to have been antagonized by Mr. Lewandowski.
Truly, a remarkably functional campaign...
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Clarence Thomas won't retire unless there is a conservative President which does not seem likely in the near future. If he retired, the Court would be 4-3 in favor of the progressives which means that the conservatives will have lost the Supreme Court even if the Republicans continue to stonewall nominations since a 4-3 Supreme Court that leans liberal is just as effective as a 5-4 Supreme Court that leans liberal. Judge Thomas is also the most conservative Justice on the Supreme Court, so the lost of both Scalia AND him alongside the inevitable rise and eventual failure of Trump would likely signal the end of the conservative movement and the beginning of a more progressive era.

If the sacrifice to a tone-deaf war junkie not getting his fix is millions of lives saved, I think I can live with that.
And Thomas's wife seems to be refuting the rumors of retirement. Shame, since Thomas has never been a particularly good justice and should never have been on the court to begin with.
Thomas is like Ted Cruz, in my opinion. That is, minority members who look like they are trying to one-up conservative white men in conservative white men-ism. At least Scalia did have some defensible opinions regarding freedom of the arts and video games and child protection as a rationale for violating the former.

Mmmm, if I understand it correctly that's not just a manufacturer complaining about being sued for a sale they had no part in, the gun used in the massacre was bought wholesale from the company. That said, provided they did what was legally required of them to "vet" the buyer (which IIRC, was Lanza's mother), I really don't see this case, not without stronger gun control laws being established in general.
Corporate Personhood, I'd argue, is a good idea. All it means is that a group of people can, for legal purposes, be considered one legal entity. You can't take away the rights of a group of people without taking the rights of individuals. Without this, news companies could be censored (since corporations wouldn't have free speech). Corporate Personhood is also what gives rights to groups like Unions and Native American tribes.
Leviticus 19:34Nope, I can't get in line with that. Corporations do not and should not have rights as legal persons. Corporations should not have freedom of speech, or religion, or association, because doing so confers no benefit to society.
If the individuals who own or are employed by a corporation wish to speak, they can do so to their heart's content. But a corporation has no legal accountability for its speech, so it should not gain free exercise thereof.

Ah...before the edit it sounded like you thought that companies shouldn't be able to make contracts, or the concept of limited liability.
Then again, Legal personalities
are a complex issue — a Sovereign State is a legal personality, after all.

Keep Rolling OnLiability for a corporation's actions attaches to no individual person, therefore it is extremely difficult to bring it to task for said actions in a way that meaningfully impacts the people who operate it.
Partnerships and sole proprietorships, by contrast, do not shield their owners from liability.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I would have no problem with that. Produce some accountability for the system.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"FOX News is on and reporting that the FBI is part of some conspiracy to defend ISIS by saying that the shooter wasn't affiliated with them. Rudy Giuliani is there as well.
They're also saying the FBI struck his declaration of allegiance to ISIS from the record and deleted those portions of his phone call.
Oh really when?

I'm just gonna go on record here and predict Trump will mention either the Cavs or LeBron up on the podium at the RNC.
The damned queen and the relentless knight.
