Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If you think Trump had self control, you haven't been paying attention the last couple weeks.
He is racism and sexism weren't opportunistic. They are sincerely held beliefs.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell, ISIS have apparently claimed responsibility for the attack
.
It's incredibly saddening and tragic. My sincerest condolences from a Spanish citizen.
"It is true that we are called a democracy, for the administration is in the hands of the many and not of the few."Politico
says that 1 in 4 Israelis would vote for the Drumpnfurher if they could. Anecdotally, from what I've seen of /r/Israel (which is... right-wing, ish?) the poll's got something.

On empty crossroads, seek the eclipse -- for when Sol and Lua align, the lost shall find their way home.Israelis may well like him. Things aren't too good over there and the overt racism and anti mulism sentiment is probably winning him points.
American Jews though don't like him. Especially when his audience with the bigger Jewish lobbyists basically amounted to him saying they should get along because he's a sleazy businessman who cheats people and Jews are also sleazy and cheat people.

Oh really when? The weirdly enduring thing is the fact that the American Jewish community trends left, whereas that's not the case for the rest of global Jews.
Supposedly the numbers have ticked a little over the years, possibly because of higher birth rates among Ultra Orthodox and the fact that support for Palestine is slowly becoming a partisan issue rather than one confined to the college-left scene.
The American Jews are in a pretty much different situation than the rest of the World's Jews though.
While in the US the average Jewish person is in a pretty much privileged position while in the rest of the world they are in the "Oh shit they are going to kill us mode" in which brings a siege mentality that pushes them to the more conservative and exclusionary views.

Inter arma enim silent legesThis is really disgusting. It's not just the racism, it's this man being genuinely happy that the attack occurred so that he could profit politically from it. It's extremely disturbing, and a sad reflection of the current state of American politics, that a man like this could gain such high level of support.
Not necessarily: keep in mind that a lot of people come out of New York, period. It's like the Bermuda Triangle: Not actually dangerous, but a lot ships pass through it, and thus, a lot ships disappear in it as well.
Leviticus 19:349/11 and alien invasion took a toll on them.

Non Indicative UsernameAnd the saddest thing is that it doesn't even surprise me. Here in Europe we have to deal with the refugee crisis, and the things that get posted on social media about it truly make me sick. It shocks me how much hatred a person can have in them.
Generally far-right politicians profit from the fear that such attacks generate. Personally, I think it's somewhat of an exaggeration, seeing that the elections are only in five months. We'll have to wait for the aftermath of this.

Sounds like a "not getting that most terrorists being Muslim =/= most Muslims being terrorists" sort of thing.

All of the rightwingers I'm following show this attitude. "Hey, faggots and libtards! Guess who was right all along? Muslims are evil! You deserve each other! Sucks to be you!"
