Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not that it isn't hypocritical but we've already gone over that. Now it sort of feels like a rehash. Though, the author is talking as if they're the only person to make note of the hypocrisy which is weird.
Though I have to say, I find the glee some people (not that writer) have of "Maybe she'll be indicted/there will be another scandal/have a serious health problem" very off-putting. And if your saying Sanders should stay in on the off chance of any of those things happening you are grasping at the thinnest of straws.
Dirty Communists have been demonstrably willing to use violent uprisings throughout history. Saner Marxists would prefer a velvet revolution, though they'd run into the same problem: firearm-owning citizens would form militias to resist communist rule to the best of their ability, making life a living hell for whoever has the misfortune of running this new regime.

Worst-case, if Hillary should have a catastrophic failure, the party would probably go to Sanders as a backup, since he came in second, but they wouldn't be required to.
Trump’s fundraisers see no chance of hitting $1 billion
and Trump: 'No reason’ to raise $1B for campaign
. Which is really idiotic, considering that "publicity" is not the only thing you can and should buy with that money. Organization, door-to-door campaigning, for example, are things you can buy with this money.
What, he's not going to get his rich pals to chip in? For shame, Trump.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sometimes it feels like Trump started this whole thing as a joke, but now he's got too much support to just shrug and give up.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. That would be hilarious, though. Halfway through the election,
- Trump: Hey, nice seeing everyone, I'm sure this is going to be a great debate but honestly, I'm bored of all this crap so I'm quitting the race to go hunt the most dangerous game or something. It's been a blast. Be sure to buy my new book, To Serve Man!
And then everyone feels a great disturbance in the Force, as if a thousand Republicans literally exploded from sheer outrage all at once.

To be fair, that is how he won the Republican Nomination.
That being said, it's obvious why everyone is reluctant to fund Trump's presidential bid. Rich people running megacorporations benefit from the current economic structure of free trade and corporate globalism which Trump would irreparably damage. In addition, any business caught funding Trump's campaign will justifiably be protested and boycotted by minorities and millennials which make up a significant chunk of the current and future buying public.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyAll the money in the world can't make up for a truly odious candidate; look at George Wallace if you don't believe that. However, part of the problem on the GOP side of late has been the grotesque inefficiency with which they've spent their billions in campaign cash, wasting huge amounts on SuperPACs which were little better than affinity fraud engines.
This is what happens when you let Libertarian-Objectivist, free-market people run campaign finance operations.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Considering what has happened so far I expect that he things the media will basically pay for his campaign as it goes. Who needs TV ads when you are on The Tonight Show, news, entertainment shows, etc every day anyway.

i think the point was he was so bad no amount of finance would help.

I still hope she doesn't take the Vice Presidency, because tactically, that would be the DUMBEST move for long term play.

Peace is the only battle worth waging. As if civil asset forfeiture wasn't bad enough, Oklahoma can now max out your credit cards, too
. Cross-posting from the Law Enforcement thread.
Last month, the OHP started using 16 ERA Ds, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, reported News on 9.
The process of seizing money electronically works similar to civil asset forfeiture, where police can seize property or cash if they believe it is connected to a crime. They can do this without a warrant or arrest, and they don’t have to prove a crime was committed first.
If a trooper suspects you have money tied to a crime, the highway patrol can use the ERAD to scan any cards you have and seize the money.
“We’re gonna look for different factors in the way that you’re acting,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent told News on 9. “We’re gonna look for if there’s a difference in your story. If there’s someway that we can prove that you’re falsifying information to us about your business.”
Once someone’s money is seized, it is up to them to prove that the money is not connected to the crime.
“If you can prove can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money, it will be given back to you,” Vincent said. “And we’ve done that in the past.”
However, State Sen. Kyle Loveless, R-Oklahoma City, told News on 9 that the ability to seize money like that removes due process and the belief that a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
He said he has already seen instances where police have abused the system, so he is planning on introducing legislation to change it.
Loveless said he will propose legislation that will require a conviction before any assets could be seized.
“If I had to err on the side of one side versus the other, I would err on the side of the Constitution,” Loveless said. “And I think that’s what we need to do.”
According to News on 9, OHP paid ERAD Group Inc. $5,000 for the software and scanners, and will give them then 7.7 percent of all the cash the highway patrol seizes.

I beg to differ. The hardcore Marxist-style revolutionaries want the system to collapse completely, with food riots and civil revolt, so they can pull all the bourgeoisie out of their comfortable homes and line them up against walls for the firing squads. Very The Dark Knight Rises in principle.
