Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

French government has been Officially Secular for many decades now, no? The current election laws will have been made relatively recently since they've been through multiple changes of constitution over those years, right?
By comparison, the date of the American general election was fixed in the constitution at a time when, even allowing for not all the Founding Fathers being strict Christians (many non-denominational Diests), Sunday as the day of rest was held up much more strictly, and it was written into the Constitution, a document deliberately made so that it takes a lot of effort to amend it so it better be Real Important if you're going to try.
(Though we are still talking primaries at the moment which the Constitution has nothing to deal with)
I know there's sarcasm in there but in the modern day, attitudes toward Sunday are much more lax even for the faithful, as evidenced by the fact that you can run businesses and sell liqour and do a number of other things on Sunday these days that were once not legal (see: Blue Laws).

I'm aware. He's framing himself in the (relatively) less explicit form of racism, as we've seen the most explicit form brought into the spotlight by his supporters.
Does he still think non-whites are less preferable? Obviously.
I just don't quite believe that he's capable of giving a shit about any kind of racial theory, though it's entirely possible I'm wrong.
This all just a semantic issue anyways. Racism is as racism does.

I don't blame the Clinton campaign for this mess, it's the fault of the press, but they need to fall in line.

without actually apologizing, of course.
Incidentally, schwarzenegger came out on defense of Judge Curiel (who he originally appointed to the bench)

The whole Arnie situation is even more ironic since Arnold Schwarzengger is effectively Ronald Reagan 2.0. He's a movie star who became Governor of California. This is the guy who the Republican Party would be pushing for President if they actually could.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyHow was Arnold considered as a governor? Good? Bad? I voted in the recall election that put him in office, but left California during the course of his tenure.
(I voted for the third guy who I can no longer remember and until recently would've sworn was John McCain, until I was told he wasn't even in that election *shrug*)
He vetoed it on the ground that's a constitutional amendment outlawing Equal Marrige had already been passed by the voters and was in the process of being challenged in the courts, as such adding a non-constitution amending bill legalising something explicitly banned in the cosntution was just going to create further complications.
Assuming that Clinton wins Calafornia (which AP might have cost her honestly) then she should cross 2026 pledged and at that point she's won, I could see Sanders staying on the ballot for DC but any active campaigning should be finished.

Democrats who actually believe in the party, not people who have tethered themselves to it over the past year to get their movement some momentum. Sanders didn't do nearly enough to court the mainline Democrats and now he excepts them to give him the nomination? That's a joke.

Trump's been in hot water over refusing to rent homes to dark skinned people before. Not to mention his father was a proud member of the Klan and he grew up being taught about white supremacy.
Oh really when?
