Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I was asking out of curiosity.
More over, regardless of whether the death threats are real or not is irrelevant. The fact that nobody's even making them shows that the people of this thread aren't as bad as the Bernie Bros.
On an unrelated note: is it just me or does "Bernie Bro" sound like a Mario baddie? It all makes sense now: Bowser sent the Bernie Bros.

I have to wonder whether that's actually the case or whether it's simply because everyone here knows the Internet Tough Guy routine will get you banned here. Or anywhere where there's effective moderation.

Speaking personally, I would not make death threats against anybody even if I knew I wouldn't be moderated for it, because I was taught to behave civilly to people. That said, taking the absence of them as proof that people would do them if they weren't threatened with banning for it is a bit convoluted.
We don't hate Bernie Sanders or his supporters. But they've made themselves very difficult to listen to or take seriously. This is speaking as a person who strongly considered voting for him in the primary.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I try to avoid making threats because once you do that you've effectively killed the conversation.
I think the only time I've genuinely threatened someone in my personal life was when the person in question was advocating for genocide. At which point the conversation wasn't going to move forwards anyway.

Re: Birthers: IIRC Tom Delay was one of the major mouthpieces for the birther movement.
Re: Sanders: Despite the questionable actions of some of his followers, I do still like the guy and many of his platforms. But when push comes to shove, we can't have more than one Democrat on the ballot, so since Hillary now has the minimum delegates, I'd rather Bernie just gracefully drop out so that the Democratic party has a chance in November.

By the way if people want to see what genuinely anti-Sanders Democrats sound like, this article
and the comments below might be enlightening.

But of course. Under no circumstances should he take things to the convention. If something catastrophic were to actually happen like a Hillary Clinton indictment or cancer diagnosis between now and the convention, the superdelegates will still be able to give him the nomination, and if that were to happen afterwards, it'd be on Clinton to step down. After the voting is done, there's really no point in staying in the race, and I legitimately do expect him to concede either today or after the last primary on the 14th.

Hillary will apparently have a conversation with Sanders on Tuesday night, per The Hill. Maybe she can convince him to drop his bid at that point.
Also, @Capsase, there is nothing that forbids the convention from voting for Sanders if in some hypothetical scenario Hillary were to drop out. No, not even Sanders himself dropping out.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI have to agree with Fighteer. We in this thread aren't as bad as certain Bernie supporters from the depths of Reddit because the Internet Tough Guy routine gets banned here. Besides, it would be really foolish of me to announce my plans to assassinate Trump if he gets elected in a public forum...Did I Just Say That Out Loud??
If this thread weren't as strictly modded as it is, we'd have a lot more right-wingers, hard-leftists and plain jerks. But since basic touchstones of right-wing politics are banned here, along with the kind of attitudes correlated with the hard-left, we're going to have a civil and somewhat bounded debate here ("bounded debate" unfortunately meaning something of an echo chamber - I still miss Maxima).
The funny thing is I've seen some people say Trump brought up Curel's ethnicity as away to distract people from Trump U. Sorta like how people think he brought the whole John Miller thing to distract from his taxes. But if that's the case then it seriously backfired. Being openly racist is far worse than possibly running a scam college.
Paul Ryan: Trump's comments about judge are 'textbook' racism.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.
