Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Main Concerns if memory serves:
- The Chinese Government fucks up their slowdown of their country's growth, letting it fall out from under itself as it goes to 2% or less inflation.
- The Fed keeps trying to up interest rates with no reason to do so other than "The economy looks vaguely healthy enough to support it".
- Brexit causes a chain reaction of economic disaster (especially with London being the New York/Wall Street of Europe)
- There's currently issues with Rental Property and Automotive Loan speculation similar to the Housing Bubble from what I remember.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Trump's not racist. Honest.

Trump doubles down on judge attacks: 'He's a Mexican. We're building a wall'.

Wow... that's not even half as tactful as Some of My Best Friends Are X.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"To give Trump his due credit, every time we think we have enough reasons to not vote for him, we get stuff like "This judge is of Mexican heritage. We're building a wall.". When I hear people are willingly supporting Trump the two thoughts that always occur to me are either:
- You have heard him speak, right?
- Is this really the man you want to essentially be the face of the United States of America?
I honestly don't know what I find more disturbing. The idea that he genuinely believes what he says with this kind of stuff, the idea that he's only saying it because he thinks it's what will get him elected, or (going by the Republicans' response to his being the presumptive nominee) the fact that he seems to be right if point 2 is correct.
I know there's people who will vote for him because he's not Clinton. Just as there are people who will vote for Clinton because she's not Trump. But when you put aside "He's not X" or "She's not Y", what actually makes Donald Trump a better candidate than Hillary Clinton for President of the United States of America? Because I'm honestly not seeing it. What skeleton, or combination of skeletons, in Hillary's closet makes her the worse choice next to Donald "We have to go after terrorists' families" Trump?

I might hazard a guess at the latter. From what I understand, Trump doesn't really have much of a platform and seems to change his mind fairly frequently, so the idea that he just says whatever will get him the most attention and the most likely to ignite the racist and xenophobic feelings in America sounds plausible to me.
Well my trainer says he worked with a rich guy who worked with Trump. Apparently he really is a racist sexist sack of shit who never pays any money back. And all the other rich people hate him. The man is acting more and more like Eric Cartman by the day.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.I got into an argument with someone who said that there was no chance Hillary could win the general-he said that she's got too much dirty laundry, the emails will haunt her and that there's no way she can win a debate. I feel like I lost that argument, even though I shouldn't have-she still has as much of a chance as anybody. I just discovered that I probably shouldn't argue on the internet...

A Trump presidency would just make me remember the last president we had, a bufoon and plutocrat who tried to fill the supreme court with cronies (partly succeeded) and bought lots of congressmen to gain a legislave majority in his period, He tried to run a lackey for president in the last election but that lackey lost (Panama does not allow consecutive re-election)

No need to pile on, then.
