Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

When we're talking about primaries, there are generally two polling bumps: one after the convention when the candidate officially accepts the nomination from their party, and one before that when they emerge as the presumptive nominee (ie, everyone else has dropped out of the primary). Trump is benefitting from that first bump, but Clinton is not yet.
Basically, Clinton-vs-Trump polls won't be comparing apples to apples until after the party conventions. Until then, Trump is going to have a polling advantage that doesn't actually reflect reality.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien."Clinton did not comply with policy on email records: reports" - http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0YG21Z
This could be problematic
I intend to firmly ignore that unless there's a credible finding of criminal wrongdoing.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"No, the article cites "U.S. media outlets" reporting that if she did certain things, that would have been a violation of policy. It literally says nothing except that unnamed people said something about something. It's bizarrely circular — given that Reuters is a US media outlet, the article could conceivably be talking about itself.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien."The idiots who hold the "torch it" mentality never seem to want to stop and consider that in this case they will likely be the ones against the wall (metaphorically or literally, depending on how things swing) when their glorious revolution arrives."
If they're white, they have an easy out. They become fervent Trump supporters and Les Collaborateurs. Brown people, like me, though? We'll be facing the firing squads.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."@ Polls: An important thing to remember is that people lie — for example, with what is called in Britain the "vote for an unpopular Party, Shy Tory Factor
".
I do love the two clips linked at the bottom of this article
. Nice to see some people on CNN calling out Trump.
I wasn't actually looking into politics during Obama's first run, did he and his supporters have the same air of "saviorness" around them that (a lot but not all) of his supporters drape around Sanders?
Because I remember being a bit bewildered by people acting as if Obama had solved all the countries problems the day after he was elected. I don't mean just taking in the historical event, I mean legitimately acting as if he could or would be able to fix all of the countries problems.
I highly doubt Trump will form death squads to hunt down and shoot brown people. But a Trump Presidency will be hell on Earth for just about everyone, yes even his dam supporters, who will be forced to witness social disruption not seen since the fucking 60's and 70's.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Yeah, their is no way the Panthers won't see a major revival if Trump is elected, and the Black Panther (yes I know their not related) move comes out in 2018. And of course Trump is already leading some of the nastier elements of the White Supremacist movement out of the shadows.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. We could easily see a revival of old-school racial violence, such as lynchings and beatings, answered by riots and motivating a call for suspension of civil liberties.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Already, we've seen a startling increase in anti-semitism.
Thanks, Trump!

People-particularly socialists-applied almost messianic traits to Obama. Especially since the right was freaking out and calling him a socialist.

Pissy Sanders supporters are going to fall in line for the most part. PUMA wasn't a thing in 2008, despite the noise being made about it.
