Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Never mind that people are already being charged with assaulting officers for things like bleeding on their uniforms after being beaten. It's also bad news for the mentally ill who are another frequent target of police brutality. Or even just the ill. There was a man a while back who was beaten and arrested and charged with assault for having a seizure.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWhat is funny is that Louisiana is pushing this. Don't they have better things to do? Like, their state budget? The Democrats did win the last gubernatorial election there not just because of luck, after all.
GOP super-PAC ‘endorses’ Wasserman Schultz
- they are saying that DWS has helped the Republicans in Congressional and local elections.
Reid: 'Lay off' Sanders criticism
- I'd argue that Sanders needs to cool down his outrages a bit, though. Otherwise I mostly agree.
question: where is the religious right this election? they managed to raise quite a fuzz during Obama's presidency and 2012 elections, but i haven't heard a peep from them this election.

Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistThe Religious Right appears to no longer be a relevant force, if their wholesale abandonment of Ted Cruz in the primaries is any indication.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"A lot of religious conservatives are part of what I call the suckers demographic that perceive themselves as "losers" and went to Trump. Same as the Dixiecrats and blue collar Trump voters.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe religious right are also busy at a state level passing anti-LGBT laws, either because they're assholes or because they need a distraction rom the bloody mess they've made of several states economically.

Reading that article the complaints the Sanders supporters have seem pretty silly. Somehow scheduling debates at times of lower viewership is supposed to have hurt Sanders? And the joint fundraising charge is just silly. Clinton has been raising money for other candidates. Sanders has not.
If there's other charges against the woman I'm open to hearing them but both those accusations sound pretty ridiculous. And that it's coming from Jeff Weaver who is easily my least favourite person in the Sanders campaign doesn't help.
Quite frankly I think the media has been overly generous to Sanders. He's never come under the kind of fire that Clinton has, though it would be easy enough to do so
. Republican news sources have pretty much ignored him (which is what you want as a Democrat), the You Tube left have been obsessively pulling for him, and the MSNBC crowd have been very accommodating (I like Rachel Maddow a lot but if she told me one more time about the size of the crowds he was drawing I think I was gonna scream).
