Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Unfortunately, I do not have your optimism that Republican voters aren't numerous enough to win an election when Republicans have been gaining control of Congress. From what I have seen so far, the Democratic Party have become a presidential party and the Republican Party have become a congressional party.
Wizard Needs Food Badly![]()
The House is gerrymandered to shit, the Dems won more votes for the House in 2012 then the Republicans did, the losses in 2014 came on the back of 36% turnout in midterms.
They're not numerous enough to win a presidential year election, they're committed enough to a win a midterm one where two third of the country doesn't vote, but that's not them winning, it's the Dem's loosing by not turning up.
Yeah that's some nasty shit, so far it seems to just be one incident and everyone who knows Sanders has commented that there's no way he's okay with it, likewise his campaign have said that people shouldn't be doing it.
It's possibly that the Nevada lot might kick off at the convention, but there's no indication that any other group of Sanders supporters are going to act in thsi way, this is the first actual report we've gotten.
Hell even that lot aren't liable to kick off unless the convention is closed the moment Clinton gets the nomination and the delegates are denied their chance to vote on party policy. Now if the DNC denies the delegates the chance to vote on party policy you might well see a riot, it would be incredibly anti-democratic to deny delegates the right to vote on party policy if that's how the convention works per the rules.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranGod damn, the Kentucky primary is tight.
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company. Some of those people might riot even if they lose fair and square.
Edit: Not too worried about Kentucky, every time Sanders fails to win a state decisively (like 66%+) Clinton is one step closer to mathematically winning in pledged delegates.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. The more I think about it, its interesting how openly liberal websites and groups have responded to this primary.
Daily Kos and TPM are both Pro-Clinton.
The Young Turks, Common Dream, Salon, and the Huffington Post are Pro-Sanders.
Think Progressive and Media Matters seem to be ignoring the Dem Primary in order to shit on the GOP 24/7.
Addicting Info is just blindly praising both candidates.
Sanders campaign manager: There will be no violence at the national convention..

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.South Carolina bans abortion after 19 weeks.
I'm sorry, but after that statement, Sanders can go fuck himself.
That statement should've been a full blown rebuke of the violence and death threats, but instead it's a backhanded apology with "Well, you shouldn't have made them mad!"
He's literally implicitly egging on violence.
If he keeps this up, I wouldn't be surprised if he lost all influence, committee assignments, etc.
And I wouldn't give a single fuck.
New Survey coming this weekend!Just came across this today. It was pretty interesting. Although the most interesting part is that most of the "rebuttals" I found consist of simply stating that the author is a corporate lawyer. One of the biggest problems with the Sanders campaign is how he accuses everyone who disagrees with him of being a corporate shill and every election he loses is due to fraud. It's like the Bernie Bros don't even believe that I exist.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, I'm sorry but fuck Sanders. He's actually making me feel a lot of contempt for left-wing, activist politics; he's throwing away all practicality and increasingly any sanity in the name of his damned revolution.
And the local Democrats are tentatively calling Kentucky for Clinton, though there's likely to be a recount.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I'm not enough of an expert on fetal development to comment on South Carolina's ban, though I'm usually suspicious of any limitations on abortion.
Edit: read through the article. I'm now safe saying Fuck South Carolina. Especially after removing the bits about rape and incest.
@Bernie: Its very disheartening to see him act like this. I trusted him, and voted for him in the primaries. Now I'm regretting supporting him at all. Its a shame too, as I liked that he was trying to pull us to the left.

I am worried that Bernie doesn't care about whether Democrats win though. He's been attacking Clinton long after the point where he had any chance of winning, and while he isn't directly responsible for his supporters, it feels like he is feeding their conspiracy theories and distruct.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAnd when all three candidates are at exhausted from fighting each other, I shall rise out and claim victory! Mwahahahaha.
Leviticus 19:34That article pretty much sums up my opinion. Also provided a link to this
. Can you imagine if Clinton had done that? The outrage that would be coming from the Sanders supporters?

@Rational: Perhaps if the democrats don't want the left becoming militant, they should actually start getting some results?
Anyway, I'm reserving judgement. There's no way to know what's been said in private between the campaigns, so there's no way of knowing whether what concessions Clinton has offered yet.
