Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

You mean to say that successful businesses are immune from things like Nepotism, Cronyism, useless C-suite positions, extremely inflated top executive salaries, bonuses, and luxury accomodations, and so on and so forth? One would think that the most successful, largest corporations are the ones most prone to this sort of thing.
Of course, once a corporation is sufficiently large, getting help from the government becomes almost inevitable, so...
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Something odd happening in the GOP: Cruz re-opens door to challenging Trump for nomination
- there are rumours floating that Cruz may reopen his challenge to Trump. If he wins the Nebraska primary, that is.
Speaking of Nebraska, today is another primary in West Virginia. From what I know, it's pretty much expected to go for Sanders and Trump.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMoney quote from the guy in question:
"For many, many years, when I would say these things, other white people would call me names: 'Oh, you're a hatemonger, you're a Nazi, you're like Hitler,'" he confessed. "Now they come in and say, 'Oh, you're like Donald Trump.'"
That kind of says it all, doesn't it? But yeah, the article profiles Johnson (the guy) and he and other AFP people discuss how Trump's candidacy allows them to no longer be pariahs and feel like their views are mainstream.

if anything, successful business benefits more from ineffiectiveness by making the customer pay more for less
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI'm not clear on whether or not he was dropped, but as per a tweet by Rachel Maddow
, the Trump campaign says he was mistakenly included due to a database error.
I am not sure what else could be said about Donald Trump except that he will likely do better in the Electoral College than Goldwater in '64 and Wallace in '68, which is just plain sad given his views.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyYep, for a Democrat to win like that you'd need them to be a Democratic Donald Trump - keeping the normal Democratic constituencies in the fold while at the same time winning over enough Trumpites to blow the Republicans out. It's not impossible but it would need an awkward balancing act; you'd need:
- Someone with an extreme ability to dominate and control the news media coverage.
- Someone able to kick up enough resenting white voters while not scaring off minority voters.
- Someone who is able to catch any opposition completely off-guard and unable to respond.
No-I think Hillary has this nomination. Speaking as a Republican, I could see myself voting for her over Trump. I could even see myself liking her for being right of Obama IIRC and she won't rock the boat too much. Sanders...I like about as much as Trump.
